　　It’salsoheartbreakingwhengeniuswon’trecognizeitself,andthat’sthemostbafflingproblemofallin``GoodWillHunting,’’thesmart,involvingstoryofaworking-classkidfromBoston.

　　ThefilmstarsmattDamonasajanitoratmITwholikestopartyandhangaroundtheoldneighborhoodandwhosereadingconsistsofdownloadingthecontentsofwholelibrariesintohisphotographicmemory.StellanSkarsgard（thehusbandin``BreakingtheWaves’’）playsLambeau,theprofessor,whooffersaprizetoanystudentwhocansolveadifficultproblem.Thenextmorning,theansweriswrittenonablackboardstandinginthehall.

Noneofthestudentsdoes.Afewdayslater,LambeaucatchesWillHunting（Damon）attheboardandrealizeshe’stheauthor--anaturalmathematicalgeniuswhocanintuitivelyseethroughthethorniestproblems.LambeauwantstohelpWill,togethimintoschool,maybe,orcollaboratewithhim.Butbeforethatcantakeplace,Willandsomebuddiesarecruisingtheoldneighborhoodandbeatupaguy.Willalsohammersonthecopsalittleandisjailed.

　　True,theycanbothdoquickmathintheirheads.ButWillHuntingisnotanidiotsavantorsomekindoflovablecuriosity;he’sasmartmanwhoknowshe’ssmartbutpullsbackfromchallengesbecausehewasbeatendownoncetoooftenasachild.
