InPingyaoAncientCityaremanytraditionalhousesandcommercialbuildings,3,797ofwhichareprotectedandmorethan400ofwhichareingoodcondition.NotonlydothehousesinPingyaoshowShanxi’shistoryandculture,buttheyarealsovaluableforstudyingitshistory,customs,ancientbuildingsandart.Mostofthesehousesarestillusedashomesandshopsoflocalpeople.
