Chinesecharactersarewritteninashapeofsquare,thereforetheyareknownassquare-shapedcharacters.Eachcharacterconsistsofvariousstrokesformedbydifferentdotsorlinesasthebasiccomponents.

TherearesixbasicstrokesofChinesecharacters.（someonealsoholdstheideathateightbasicstrokes）Theyarehorizontalstroke,theverticalstroke,theleft-fallingstroke,thedotstrokeandtherisingstroke.Othertypeofstrokesarederivedfromthestrokesmentionedabove,andthusknownasthederivedstrokes.

TheorderofstrokesforwritingChineseCharacters

ThegreatmajorityofChinesecharactersareformedbymorethantwostrokes.Inwritingthemtwopointsshouldbetakennoticeof:

Thestrokescanonlybewrittenincertaindirections.Forexample,thehorizontalstrokeshouldonlygofromlefttoright.Itwouldbewrongifitisdoneotherwise.Similarlytheverticalstrokecanonlybewrittenfromtoptobottom,neverbottomtotop.

Thestrokesthatareusedtofromacharactershouldbewritteninacertainorderknownas“strokeorder”.Forinstance,inwriting十,thehorizontalstrokealwaysgoesbeforetheverticalone.
