TheContainer:

容器：
你可以将土豆种植在大容器中。
我曾见过有人在大垃圾筒，甚至垃圾袋或成堆轮胎中种土豆。
但是对于使用轮胎和垃圾袋我还是会很谨慎，因为它们在太阳底下会变得很热，而且塑料和橡胶中隐含的有毒物质现在也没有定论，分解时，可能会将化学物质渗进土壤中。

如果你使用的是塑料容器，一定要使用快速排水的土壤。
Fertilizer:

肥料：
我都是将有机缓释肥料搀进盆栽土中。
而且在土豆的生长过程中，我也会使用稀释过的液体肥，比如鱼乳化剂。
频率大约为两星期一次。

阳光与水：
土豆没有阳光和水无法生长。
一天至少需要6-8小时的光照。
土豆生长过程中还有持续的水分供应。
土壤要保持湿润而不是溢水。
如果土壤太干，土豆会死掉。
如果水太多，土豆会腐烂。
如果无法保持一致的湿润程度，土豆会变得畸形怪异。

Thereareafewtheoriesongettingpotatoesreadyforplanting.Somepeoplewaitfortheirpotatoestosproutandsomepeoplejustplantthem.Thentherearethosepeoplewhocuttheirpotatoesandletthem"callousover"byleavingthemtositforacoupleofdays.Somepeoplejustcutthemrightbeforetheyplantthem.Ifyourpotatoesaresmall,youdon'thavetocutthematall,andcansimplyplantthem.
寻找适宜种植的土豆有几条理论可循。
一些人会等待他们的土豆发芽，一些人干脆就把土豆直接种进去。
然后就有人把土豆切成块然后无情地把它们扔在土里”坐“上几天。
还有一些人切完土豆之后直接种在土里。
如果你的土豆比较小，根本就没有必要切它们，种在土里就行了。

Afteryouhaveplantedyourseedpotatoes,coverthemwithacoupleofinchesofsoilandcompost.Don’tgettooenthusiastichere-youdon’twantyourpotatoestobetoodeep.Thecoolertheclimate,thelesssoilyoushouldputontop.Putonetofourinchesofsoilontopofyourseedpotatoes.
种下土豆种子后，在上面覆盖几英寸深的泥土和堆肥。
到这一步也不要太乐观-土豆不要种的太深。
气候越寒冷，覆盖在上面的土要越少。
在土豆种上面放置的土约1-4英寸深。

水分适宜。
种植土豆的关键之一是保持土壤潮湿，而不是湿润。
检查潮湿程度时，把手指插进土里至少一英寸或者没到第二个关节的位置。

如果感觉干燥，浇水。
一天至少检查一次。
如果非常热或多风，你可能需要一天多次浇水。
确保水渗的够深，能够能底部流出。
如果水只浇到土壤表面是达不到预期效果的。

操作时注意不要伤害植物苗。
Youwillbecoveringsomeoftheleavesofyourpotatoplantswithyoursoilcompostmix,butyouwantatleast2/3oftheplantwithitsleavestobestickingoutofthesoil.

土豆苗的生长速度之快让人吃惊，所以要密切留意，不要让它们逃出你的眼睛。

Youcanbegintoharvestpotatoesanytimeaftertheplantshaveflowered.Justcarefullyreachdownintothesoilofyourcontainerandpulloutsomepotatoes.
土豆苗开花之后，你可以随时收土豆。
不过要小心翼翼地伸进容器底部，拔出里面的土豆。
Youcanalsowaituntiltheplantsturnyellowanddiebackandthenharvestallofthepotatoes.Theeasiestwaytodothisistoturnthecontaineroverdumpitoutintoawheelbarroworontoatarp.Thenyoucanfreelypawthroughthesoiltofindallofthepotatoes.
也可以等到土豆苗变黄枯萎之后再收土豆。
最简单的方式就是把容器整个翻过来倒在手推车上或防水布上。
这样你就可以随意扒动土壤找出所有的土豆。
