Abstract
Gatsby'sdreamwastotryhisbesttoentertheupperclassandtowinDaisy'slove.Hetriedtomakehimselfelegantandmadefriendswithmanyfamouspeople.Whatismore,heboughtabighouseandanexpensivecar.Whenhewasrich,heheldpartiesdayandnighteveryweek.
Thethesisintroducesthebackgroundoftheauthor,theAmericandreamandthebook.Andthen,thisthesiswritesthefailureofGatsby'sdreamandtherelatedbackground.Itpresentsthefailureofotherpersons'dream.Throughwritingthis,itshowstheprocessthatthedreamfails.
Aftertheintroductionofthefailureofdream,itanalyseswhyGatsby'sdreamfails.Itincludestwomajoraspects:
theinternalreasonsandexternalreasons.TheinternalreasonsarecomposedbyGatsby'scharacteristics,hiswrongwaytogetandspendhismoneyandtreasureandhisunrealisticdream.Ontheotherhand,theexternalreasonsaremadeupofsocialenvironmentandotherpersons'influence.Throughdescribingthereason,itprovesthatthefailureofGatsby'sdreamisinevitable.AlthoughGatsbymadeagreatefforttoachievehisdream,thereweremanybarrierspreventinghisdreamfromcomingtrue.Aboveall,hisdreamisimpossibletocometrue.
