简评:

1.Thefarmerwasveryafraid,andhethoughthewouldbesentencedtodeathbykillingpeople.这一句可以改为形容词作状语的悬垂结构:

Afraid/Frightened,thefarmerthoughthewouldbesentencedtodeathbykillingpeople.

2.Hehopedthatsomeonecouldcomeandsavehim.可改成感叹句,语气更加强烈:

Howhehopedthatsomeonecouldcomeandsavehim!

saying可以换成declaring宣布;saw可换成witnessed,目击。

强调部分还可以加上否定内容使语意更加完整。

此处可以用到Itwasnot...but...that...或者Itwas...ratherthan...that...即:

5.Sohetookthegreatcouragetoexposetherealcriminal.中tookthegreatcourageto鼓起极大勇气做某事。

6.Aftertheinvestigation,theyoungmanwasright.建议改为:

Afterinvestigation,thepolicefoundwhattheyoungmanhadsaidwasthetruth.

7.Thepoliceofficerwassentintoprisonandthepolicemanwhobeatupthefarmerwasfired,andthebraveyoungmanwasregardedastheherobythevillagers.最后一句可以适当加上副词。
