TheCavro®XLP3000isTecanSystems’new60mmstrokesyringepump.ThenewmodulehasbeendesignedtobecommandcompatibleandfitthesameenvelopesizeoftheXL3000andincludesfeaturessuchasnewelectronicsandfirmware;universalvalveencoder;newvalveandsyringedesigns;andTefloncoatedleadscrewwithbacklashcompensationnut.

2.1General
TheXLP3000isafullyprogrammable,openframe,precisionliquidhandlingpumpmodule,designedforapplicationsinthe5µLto25mLrange.Itiscontrolledbyanexternalcomputerormicroprocessorandautomatespipetting,diluting,anddispensingfunctions.
TheXLP3000hasadefaultresolutionof3,000stepsandahigh-resolutionmodeof12,000steps.Forapplicationsrequiringevenhigherresolutiona3,0000/24,000stepmoduleisalsoavailable.
Upto15pumpscanbecombinedinavarietyofconfigurationstomeetmostliquidhandlingneeds.Syringesizesrangingfrom50µLto25mLareavailable.

TheXLP3000isagenerallaboratorymodulenotsubjecttoFDAregulatoryapproval.TheXLP3000usesonlyULrecognizedelectroniccomponentsandbearstheULRecognizedComponentMark:
UseofrecognizedcomponentsinaproductorsystemallowsULtofocustheevaluationofacompleteproductorsystemonitsintendedend-use,andthusspeedsuptheevaluationprocess.FormoreinformationregardingULcertificationofTecanSystems’syringepumpspleasevisittheUnderwritersLaboratoriesInc.websiteatTecanSystems’customerfilenumberisE164638.

Asamoduledesignedforincorporationintolargersystems,whichrequireindependenttestingandcertification,theXLP3000doesnotcarryitsownCEmark.

TheXLP3000canradiateradiofrequencyenergy,whichmaycauseinterferencetoradioandtelevisioncommunications.FollowstandardgoodengineeringpracticesrelatingtoradiofrequencyinterferencewhenintegratingtheXLP3000intoelectroniclaboratorysystems.

2.1.3UnpackingtheXLP3000
TounpacktheXLPmodule,followthesesteps:
1Removethepumpmodule(s)andaccessoriesfromtheshippingcartons.
2Checkthecontentsagainstthepackingsliptomakesurethatallthecomponentsarepresent.
2.1.3.1ESDConsiderations
TheXLP3000isanelectronicdevicethatissensitivetoelectrostaticdischarge(ESD).Staticdischargefromclothingorotherfixturescandamagethesecomponents.Topreventprematurefailureofpumpcomponents,theXLP3000shouldbehandledusinggoodESDpractices.Theseincludebutarenotlimitedto:
♦Usingwristandanklestraps
♦ESDmatsorworktables
♦ESDwaxonthefloor
PrepareanESD-freeworkareabeforethechassisisgrounded.

2.2PowerandElectricalConsiderations
TheXLP3000requiresa24VDCpowersupplywithacurrentratingofatleast
1.5A.TecanSystemsrecommendsusingonepowercableforeverytwopumpstoprovidenoiseimmunity;i.e.,powershouldnotbedaisy-chainedtomorethantwopumps.
2.2.1ChoosingaPowerSupply
The24VDCsupplyforasingleXLP3000shouldmeetthefollowingbasicrequirements:

Tomeettheabovebasicrequirements,thesupplymustincorporateeitherlinearorswitchingregulationandmusthaveadequateoutputfiltercapacitance.
Acurrent-limitingpowersupplyisrecommended.Currentlimitingabove1.0Aisacceptable,assumingthatnoadditionalequipmentisoperatedfromthesupply.
Ifthepowersupplyusescurrentfeedback,thetime-currentfoldbackpointmustbesufficienttoallowchargingofa470µFcapacitorwithoutfoldingback.Ifanexternalcapacitorisused,exercisecaretoensurethatthesupplyalwaysstartsafterfoldback,particularlyatlowAClinevoltage.
2.2.2IntegratingaPowerSupply
WhenapowersupplyisusedtooperatemorethanoneXLP3000orotherdevice,itmustprovidethetotalaveragecurrentforalldevices.Thepowersupplyandfiltercapacitancetogethermustsatisfythetotalpeakinputcurrentforalldevices.
Forexample,ifasystemincorporatessixXLP3000pumpswithotherequipmentthattogetherrequire4amps,a10Apowersupplyissatisfactory,providedtheoutputfiltercapacitanceinthesupplyisatleast10,000µF:
6x0.85=5.1A;+4A=9.1A(choosea10Apowersupply)
Ifthepowersupplyfiltercapacitanceislessthan10,000µF,useeitheradditionalexternalcapacitanceora15Apowersupply:
6x1.5=9.0A;+4A=13A(choosea15Apowersupply)
Inthisexample,itisassumedthatallthepumpsandotherequipmentwillsometimesoperatesimultaneously.
Externalequipmentwithinadequatebypasscapacitance
