Ofcourse,notallthetimeatTurtleCampwasconsumedbyvolunteering.ScheduledactivitiesincludedatriptoCrystalBay,abeautifulparadiseforswimmingandsunbathing,anawesomebeachbonfirecompletewithabeautifulsunsetaswellasourlocalcoworkersshowingofftheirguitarplayingandsingingskills.

OurtimeatTurtleCampwascappedoffbysettingfreetwoofourturtlesintotheseatobegintheirjourneyasindependentturtles!

Hopefully,theloveandcareprovidedattheturtleprojectwouldensurethattheseturtleshadagreaterchanceofsurvivalinthebig,wideandscaryocean.

However,classicliteratureisinauniquepositiontoshowusthatwe’renotaloneinourpainsandjoys.Bytakingusoutofourtime,classicbooksfreeustoseebeyondthesetofbeliefswesticktoandtoconnecthumanexperiencesthatremainaliveacrosstimeandplace.Whatcouldbemoregrounding,morecomforting,thanseeingourselvesinthebattles,longings,andpleasuresthathaveplayedoutacrosshundreds,thousandsofyearsofhumanhistory?

Ourpersonalengagementisthefirststepofalongerjourneyofdiscoverythatdeepensourknowledgeandunderstandingofourselvesandourworld.Wemay,forexample,feelforHesterPrynnefromNathanielHawthorne’s TheScarletLetter thoughwedespairoftheworldshelivedin.
