EricMasanet,aprofessoratNorthwesternUniversity,isthestudy'smainauthor.Masanetandhisteamlookedattheenergyusedbydatacentersaroundtheworld,andfoundthatdatacentershaveimproved.Theysawa20percentenergyimprovementeachyear.

Theseimprovementsareduetobetterservers.Theyuselessenergythanserversoncedid.Othertechnologieshavealsoimproved.
