ThefirstpartofTOEICconsistsoftwentynumberedphotographsthatareinyourtestbook.Foreachphotograph,youwillhearontheaudioprogramfoursentencesthatrefertoit.Youmustdecidewhichofthesentencesbestdescribessomethingyoucanseeineachphotograph.

Thephotographsarepicturesofordinarysituations.Aroundtwo-thirdsofthephotographsinvolveapersonorpeople;aroundone-thirdinvolveanobjectorascenewithoutpeople.

Thesentencesareshortandgrammaticallysimple.Theygenerallydealwiththemostimportantaspectsofthephotographs,butsomefocusonsmalldetailsoronobjectsorpeopleinthebackground.

Eachitemisintroducedbyastatementthattellsyoutolookatthenextnumberedphotograph.Thepacingforthispartisfast:

ThispartofTOEICconsistsofthirtyitems.Eachitemconsistsofaquestionontheaudioprogramfollowedbythreepossibleresponses（answers）tothequestion,alsoontheaudioprogram.Yourjobistodecidewhichofthesethreebestanswersthequestion.Betweeneachitemisafive-secondpause.PartIIproblemsdonotinvolveanyreadingskills;therefore,thispartisconsidereda"pure"testoflisteningskills.Yourtestbooksimplytellsyoutomarkananswerforeachproblem.

Tactics

1.Therearenoanswerchoicestoconsiderbeforeorwhiletheitemisbeingread.Youshouldjustconcentrateonthequestionandthethreeresponsesontheaudioprogram,andpaynoattentiontothetestbook.

2.Trytoidentifythetypeofquestion（informationquestion,yes/noquestion,alternativequestion,andsoon）.Thecorrectresponse,ofcourse,oftendependsonthetypeofquestionbeingasked.

3.Trytoeliminatedistractors.

4.Don'tmarkanansweruntilyouhaveheardallthreeresponses.Whenyouheararesponsethatyouthinkiscorrect,restyourpencilonthatovalontheanswersheet.Ifyouchangeyourmindandheararesponsethatyouthinkisbetter,moveyourpenciltothatchoice.Onceyouhaveheardallthreeresponses,marktheovalthatyourpencilisrestingon.（Thistechniquehelpsyourememberwhichchoiceyouthinkisbest.）
