Abstract
Thisstudypresentsadetailedreportoftheprojectimplementedtofosterstudents’motivationinEnglishlearning,throughEnglishSongsinstruction.BasedontheassumptionthatEnglishSongscanhelpthestudentsunderstandteachingmaterialsquicklyandeasilyandthusmotivatethestudentstolearnEnglishhappily,atwelve-weekprogramwasadopted.Datawerecollectedthroughquestionnaires,analysisanddiscussionofwhichshowsthatEnglishSongsreallycontributestostudent’smotivationinlanguagelearning.However,theprogramseemstobepowerlesstoacertainnumberstudents.Furtherresearchisneededformymeasurestomotivatethelearner.

1.Introduction
Asweknow,Englishisarecognizedworldlanguage,isbecomingmoreandmoreimportantinChina.MostofthestudentsareenthusiasticaboutlearningEnglish.IamnowteachingthejuniorGradeThreestudents.InmyteachingIfoundthatanumberofstudentsdidnotlikeEnglishandtheclassroomatmospherewasgettinglessandlessactive.Aquitepartofstudentsidledinclass.Theythoughtitwasaboringandmonotonoustask.Theyweretakingalessactiveroleinclassroomactivities.Afewstudentsevendroppedout.HowcanmotivatetheirinterestinEnglishlearning,improvetheirlearningefficiencyandresult?
BasedonsomeapproachesthatIhavelearnedform“EnglishLanguageTeachingMethodology”,andconsideringthecharacteristicsofmystudents,IdecidedtoadoptEnglishSongsinmylessonstomotivatethelearnersandhelpthemkeepuptheirEnglishlearning.

2.ProblemsAnalysis
Teachingwhichappealstolearners’needscanfacilitatelearning.Itisnecessarytoinvestigatewhythestudentswereshowinglessandlessinterested,anddevotinglessandlesseffort.Sointerviewswereheldandquestionnaireswereissued.Itisfoundthat:
a.Thosepoorlearnersreportthat,duetotheirlackofvocabulary,cannotfollowtheteacherinclass,andmanytimescan’tcompletethetasks.
b.Somegoodstudentsreportthatvocabularyinstructiontendstobesomechanical.Anditisthismechanicalpractice,inwhichthestudentswereaskedtoreadandre-read,writeandre-writethenewwordsandexpressionsthatdeprivedthestudentsoftheirmotivation.
c.SomestudentsreportthattheyarelackofcultureaboutEnglishlanguagecountriessuchasEngland,theUSA.Theydon’tunderstandpeople’shabits,localconditionsandcustomsandrelevantculturebackground.
d.Quiteanumberofstudentsreportthattheyareafraidofbeingcriticizedandthuswithdrawfromclassroomactivities.
e.Theteacher’smethodslackvariety.
3.Projectobjective
MyresearchobjectiveistomotivatethestudentsinEnglishlearningthroughtheEnglishsongs.
4.Projecthypothesis
ItishypothesizedthatEnglishsongscanhelpstudentsunderstandteachingmaterialsquicklyandeasilyandthusmotivatethestudentstolearnEnglishhappily.
5.Possiblesolutions
Takingtheabovefactorsintoconsideration,thefollowingsolutionswereproposed:
a.EmployinginterestingEnglishsongstohelpthestudentsunderstandandlearnnewknowledge.
b.Organizinginterestingactivitiestomotivatethestudentstomemorizethewordsandreviewthetexts.
c.Creatingthecomfortablesafeclassroomatmosphereandagoodteacher-studentrelationship.
6.ProjectDesign
6.1Subjects.
Forthisresearch,Ichosethetwoclassesofmystudentsassubjects,oneastheExperimentalGroup,theotherastheControlGroup.Theexperimentalandcontrolgroupswererandomlyselectedbydrawinglots.Throughouttheproject,theExperimentalGroupwillreceivespecialdesignedEnglishsongsinstruction,whilethecontrolgroupgoesonwithitsroutineinstruction.
6.2Procedure
ThisprojectlastedtwomonthsfromMarchtoMay.
6.3TechniquesforDataCollection
Duringthisresearch,thetechniquewasadopted,namelyquestionnaire.Togatherinformationforthedesignoftheresearchiseffective,twoquestionnaireswillbeissued,oneisatthebeginningoftheresearchandtheotherisattheendoftheresearch.Thetwoquestionnairesincludeonetableandtwofigures.
7.ProjectImplementation
7.1Helpingtotrainthestudents’SpokenEnglish
Englishsongshavestrongrhythms,whichareeasytoread.Theyareeasytounderstandandremember.Thesefeaturesconformtostudents’cognitiverulesandtraitsofdevelopingbodyandmind.Soit’seasyforthemtolovesuchsongsandfollowthem.Songscanmakestudentshaveagoodpronunciation,becausetheyprovidealotofpronunciationexercisesforstudents.LearningEnglishpronunciationthroughsongs,studentswon’tfeelboredastheydowhenpracticingthesamethingsagainandagain.
ThefollowingsaresomeexamplesshowinghowsongscanhelpstudentstraintheirspokenEnglish.Forexample:

Throughthissong“Farawayfromhome”,studentswillbeabletograsptheessenceofreadingsyllablestogether.Andtheycanalsokeepthephrase“Farawayfromhome”inmindwithoutmanyefforts.Andalsosomesongscanusetotrainthepronunciation.Forexample,“Row,row,rowyouboat”:
Row,row,rowyourboat,gentlydownthestream.
Merrily,merrily,merrily,merrily,lifeislikeadream.
Throughthissong,thestudentswillbeabletograspthewaytopronouncethesetwosounds/əu/and/e/.Inthesong“Anappleaday”,thesound/ei/canbepracticedrepeatedly.SomanyexamplesprovesongscanhelpstudentstraintheirspokenEnglish.
7.2Helpingstudentspracticetheirlistening
Themostvividlanguageintheworldismusic.Therefore,usingEnglishsongsinteachingcanhelpstudentslistenandgettheminterestedinlistening.Becausetheydon’tthinklisteningtosongshaslittletodowithlearning.Theyfeelrelaxed,whichhelpsthemconcentratemoreonlisteningthemselves,insteadofworryingaboutwhatwillhappeniftheycan’tfinishthelisteningtask.Theycannotonlyenliventheclassroomatmosphere,butalsocanchangethestudents’ideathatlisteningclassisnotinteresting.
Accordingtothecontentoflistening,fillingintheblankswiththemissingwordsorphrasesisagoodstrategyoftrainingstudents’listening.ThematerialsofsuchexercisescanbeEnglishsongs.Keywords,idiomsandphrasesofthelyricsaredugoutbeforethewordsofsongsarecopiedandhandedouttostudents.Teachersshouldchecktheanswersatlastandencouragethestudentstofollowthesongwhilelistening.Forexample,weremovesomewordsofthesong“SantaClausiscomingtothetown”andaskthestudentstofillintheblanks:

Becauseofthelivelyrhythm,studentsaremorelikelytohearandunderstandthewords,accordingtowhattheyhear,thestudentscanfinishtheblanksquickly.Iftheydonotcomplete,theycanlistentothesongagainandthenfinishtheexercise.
