1.IsaTestofSpokenEnglishNecessary?

AtestofspokenEnglishwillbeincludedasanoptionalcomponentofCollegeEnglishTest（CET）.SomepeoplearguethatitisabsolutelynecessarytoholdatestofspokenEnglishinChinabecausewehavebeeninformedfrequentlythataChinesestudentwhohasbeenlearningEnglishforovertenyearscannotevencommunicatewithanativespeaker.AtestofspokenEnglishwillbringthecollegestudentsanawarenessoftheimportanceoforalEnglish,andwillthushelpthemwiththeircommunicatingskills.

Ontheotherhand,someothersstillmaintainthatagoodcommandofreadingandwritingskillswillbeenoughfortheEnglishlearners.Tosomeextenttheiropinionderivesfromthefactthatstudentsarealreadyunderconsiderablepressurefromtheircoursework.Anotherrequiredtestwillonlyaddtotheirburden.

Inmyopinion,atestofspokenEnglishwilldomoregoodthanharm.SinceChinawillcontinueitspolicyofopeningandreform,theabilitytospeakEnglishfluentlyisamustforanyonewhowantstosurpassothersinahighlycompetitivesociety.WhetherItakethetestornot,IshallsparenoeffortstopracticeoralEnglishintheremainingyearsofmycollegestudy.

Therearepeoplewhobelievethatsomenumbersbringgoodluck,whileothersbringbadluck.Forinstance,inChinathenumbereightisthoughttobelucky.TurningourattentiontotheWest,wefindthatthenumbersevenisconsideredlucky,butthenumber13isavoidedliketheplague.

Inspiteofalltheseclaims,mostpeoplewouldagreethatthereislittleevidencethatnumbershaveanyinfluenceonourlives.Infact,theysay,thereverseseemstobethecase.Foronething,wemightexpectcalculatorstobreakdowneverytimetheynotethenumber13,andforanother,althougheveryweekhassevendaysweknowthatnoteveryweekisluckyforus.

Weighingtheprosandconsofthesearguments,Iaminclinedtoagreewiththelatterpointofview.Itisobviousthatthereisnoscientificbasisforthebeliefthatthereisaconnectionbetweenluckandnumbers.Allinall,itseemstometobesuperstition.

3.MyViewonJob-Hopping

Job-hopping,orfrequentchangeofjobs,isbecomingincreasinglycommoninChinatoday.Astheeconomygrows,moreopportunitiesforemploymentareappearingthanbefore.Theresultisthatpeople,especiallyyoungpeople,aretemptedtochangejobsfrequently,seekinghighersalariesormoreinterestingpositions.

Nevertheless,manypeopleprefertostayintheiroldjobs.Thisispartlybecausetheyfeelloyaltotheirworkunits,andpartlybecausetheydisliketheideaofhavingtospendmuchtimetrainingforanewjob.Inaddition,althoughanewjobmayofferhigherpayormoreopportunitiesforpromotion,itmaybelocatedfarfromhomeandbeinconvenienttoreach.

Ithinkitisagoodthingfortheworkforcetobeflexible,sothatnewdemandsforpersonnelcanbesatisfiedquickly.However,ifapersonchangesjobstoooften,heorshewillcauselossestotheemployingunits.Moreover,frequentjob-hoppingpreventsapersonfromgainingvaluablejobexperienceanddevelopinggoodworkhabits.

4．WhyITakeCollegeEnglishTestBand6

（a）

SomepeopleconsiderthatitisunnecessarytotakeCollegeEnglishTestBand6（CET-6）.OnereasontheyciteisthatmostschoolssetCET-4asthemainrequirement.AnotherreasonisthattheythinkthatCET-6issimplytoodifficultforthem.

I,however,havedecidedtoacceptthechallengeofCET-6.ThepreparationforthistestwillforcemetoraisethelevelofmyEnglishability.Besides,IregardCET-6asastepping-stonetofurtherqualificationsinEnglishwhichwillhelpmeinmyfuturecareer.

Allinall,takingCET-6isadvantageousforbothastudent’sstudiesandhispersonaldevelopment.ThefirstadvantageisthathewillimprovehisEnglishskillsinanall-roundway.ThesecondisthathewillstrengthenhischaracterbycontinuinghisEnglishstudieswhenotherpeoplehavebeenlazyandstopped.

WhenitcomestoCollegeEnglishTestBand6（CET-6）,opinionsdifferfrompersontoperson.Someholdthepositiveview.TheybelievethattakingCET-6isadvantageousforbothastudent’sstudiesandhispersonaldevelopment.ThefirstadvantageisthathewillimprovehisEnglishskillsinanall-roundway.ThesecondisthathewillstrengthenhischaracterbycontinuinghisEnglishstudieswhenotherpeoplehavebeenlazyandstopped.

Others,however,holdtheoppositeview.TheymaintainthatitisunnecessarytotakeCollegeEnglishTestBand6（CET-6）.OnereasontheyciteisthatmostschoolssetCET-4asthemainrequirement.AnotherreasonisthattheythinkthatCET-6issimplytoodifficultforthem.
