摘要:

本文论述了英语教学中的跨文化交际,阐述了文化教育在英语教学中所起的不容忽视的作用,对其重要性,内涵,培养方法等做了简要介绍,强调语言是交际的工具。

不了解交际对象的文化背景,势必会产生歧异,也就不可能有效地培养学生的语感。

因此强调中学生英语教学中的跨文化意识,提高其对中西方文化差异的敏感性和适应性,并重视文化知识的传播,就显得颇具伟大的社会意义和现实意义。

从研究文献中,我们不难看到文化的多样性是有它一定的社会因素和历史因素的,而且我们通过对大量的实践举例也论证了跨文化交际能力的高低直接或间接的影响着人们之间的沟通。

综上,我们可以得出:

Abstract:

Thepaperdiscussestheuseofinternationalcommunicationandtheimportantroleofculturaleducationinforeignlanguagelearning.Bythegeneralintroductionoftheimportance,definition,andthewaysofinternationalcommunicatonandforeignlanguagelearningtoemphasizethatlanguageisthemeansbywhichpeoplecommunicatewitheachother.Onceyouareunawareofthespecificbackgroundsoftheobjects,youmustmeetambiguityandcannotmastertheinstructivefeelforthelanguage.SoitisurgentforustothinkhighlyofourunderstandingofinternationalcommunicationinordertoimproveouradjustmentandsensibilitytothedifferencesofSino-westernculture.

Accordingtotheresearchmaterials,weknowthatculturediversityiscausedbysocialandhistoricalelements.Wecanprovefromamountofpracticalexamplesthattheabilityofinterculturalcommunicationinfluncetheunderstandingtoeachotherdirectlyorindirectly.

IIntroduction

1TheMeaningofInterculturalCommunication

Interculturalcommunicationisaninterdisciplinaryfieldofstudywhichincorporatesresearchfromdisciplinessuchassocialpsychology,sociology,culturalanthropology,sociolinguistics,and,ofcourse,communication.Oneofthemostimportantareasofresearchaddressedbyinterculturalscholarsishowmisunderstandingscanbeminimizedwhenpeoplecommunicatewithothersfromdifferentcultures.Contextisveryimportanttounderstandinginterculturalcommunication.Therearetwowaysindividualsusecontextincommunication:

oneislow-contextandtheotherishigh-context.

Low-contextcommunicationislikeacomputerprogram;everythingmustbespecifiedinthecodedmessageorthecomputerprogramwillnotrun.Inalow-contextcultureliketheUnitedStates,individualsmustexpressthemselvesasexplicitlyaspossibleforeffectivecommunicationtooccur.High-contextcommunication,incontrast,islikecommunicationbetweentwinswhowereraisedtogether.Twinsintuitivelyunderstandeachotheranduseshortenedsentencesandwordswhentheytalk.

IfChinesedonotunderstandthelow-contextsystemusedintheUnitedStatesandAmericansdonotunderstandthehigh-contextsystemusedinChina,misunderstandingswilloccur.

Understandingculturalnormsandrulessuchasthewayweareexpectedtogreetothers,thewayweareexpectedtodress,thewayweareexpectedtoeat,andthewayweareexpectedtoanswerquestionsareimportanttoimprovecommunicationwithpeoplefromothercultures.Forexample,ifyougreetanAmericanbyaskinghimorher"whereareyougoing?

"or"haveyoueatenyet?

”theAmericanmightfeelveryuncomfortablebecauseaskingthesequestionscouldbeinterpretedasaninvasionofprivacy.ButintheChineseculture,theseareappropriategreetings,whichdonotinvadetheotherperson'sprivacy.

Theseexamplesdoillustratetheimportanceofstudyingtheinfluenceofcultureoncommunicationifwearetoovercomeculturebarrierstoeffectivecommunication.

2TheComponentsofInterculturalCommunicativeAbility

Theinterculturalcommunicativeabilityisanewconcept,whichisstillbeingdiscussedbynow.Balmandotherscholarsinsistthatthreepartsshouldcomposeit:

attitude,knowledge,andskill.

a.Attitude

‘Attitude’inthefieldofinterculturalcommunicativeabilitymeansholdingthedifferentideasofthecommunicativeobjects,values,thoughtsandexpressionstowardsspecificbehaviors.Inordertomeetthecommunication,themixerneedtokeepacuriousandopenattitude,andfindotherculturalfeaturesintentionally,atthesametime,initiallycontactwithcommunicativeobjectsinordertostrengthentheunderstandingofthem.

b.Knowledge

Interculturalcommunicationcontainstwoaspects.First,theknowledgeofnationsandethnics.Second,properuseofwhatyouhavelearnedinclassabouttheknowledgeofcontrollingtheprocessincommunicationbysocialbehaviorrules.Mr.henGangliergeneralizestheculturefromeducation.Theyaresemanticcultureandpragmaticculture.

Semanticculturemeanstheculturalspiritdisplayedandtheculturalcontextcontainedinthesemanticsystem.Weneedpayattentiontothefollowingpointsinourforeignlanguagelearning.

First,specialthingsandconceptsinculture,whichareshowedinlexicologyandsemantics.Forexample,inwesterncountries,peopleusuallypaysomethingbycreditcardsorcheque.Theyarenotinthehabitoftakingmoneyaroundthemselves,so‘Cashlesssociety’comingintooureyes.

Second,thesamewordmayhavedifferentmeaningsindifferentsituationsbecauseofdifferentcultures.Forexample,‘blacktea’,here,itmeansred.‘Blackcoffee’meansthecoffeewithoutmilkandsugar.‘Applepolisher’meanspeoplewholiketodoeverythingtopleasesomeone.Inourcountry,wecannotimaginethat‘blacktea’and‘applepolisher’havesomethingrelatedinside,butitistruethattheyhaveadditionalmeanings.

Third,thesameword,itsclassificationinconcepts,isdifferent.Forexample,‘uncle’,inEnglish,canbeonbehalfoffather’selderbrother,father’syoungerbrother,thehusbandofone’sfather’ssister,andmother’brother,etc.‘aunt’meansfather’ssister,maternalaunt,etc.Butinchina,thosecannotbereplacedbyeachother.

c.Skill

Scholarsneedmastersocialandculturalskillsincludingtwoaspects.First,youcananalyzeandunderstandtheinformationofsocialcultureafteryoureceivethem.Second,youshouldfindnewinformationanddealwithproblemswiththefirstskill.

Theoutstandingfeatureofsocialandculturalskillsisthattheymustbeachievedfromcommunication.Apparently,socialandculturalskillsdon’tneedtobefacetoface.Youcangetitfromreading.Butinfactitisalsocalledcommunicationbetweenreadersandwriters,butansoundlesscommunication.

Attitude,knowledge,andskillcannotlearnedseparately.Attitudeistheessentialprerequisite.Ifscholarsjustholdpassiveattitudes,skillsandknowledgeseemstobevagueandgeneral.Bothattitudeandknowledgeproviderequirementsforlearningskills.Onthecontrary,withtheskillsandoptimisticattitude,wecandevelopbetterandholdalotofknowledge.Skillandknowledgecanbeachievedfromeachother,too.

Inthepracticaleducation,itholdsthepowerofcontrolling.Teachersandstudentscancultivatetheinternationalcommunicativeskillsfromthesethreepoints.

3ThePurposesofForeignLanguageLearning

Foreignlanguagelearningisofgreatsignificancetoday.Themasteryofforeignlanguagesenablesustocommunicatewithpeoplefromothercountries,achievingmutualunderstandingandfurtheringourtradingcontact,economiccooperation,andculturalandacademicexchangeswithothercountries.Bymeansofforeignlanguages,wereadforeignbooks,documentsanddatainoriginal,drawnewideasandfreshthoughts,andintroduceadvancedscienceandtechnologyintoourcountry.SoforeignlanguagesareplayinganimportantroleinoureffortstoenlargeChina'sinfluenceandmakegreatercontributiontomankind.

Fromanotherpoint,thebasicpurposeofforeignlanguagelearningistorealizetheinterculturalcommunicationsoastocommunicatewithpeoplewithdifferentbackgrounds.Raisingtheefficiencyandqualityofforeignlanguagelearningandimprovingthestudents‘abilityofusingforeignlanguagearetheurgentneedsofnationaleconomicdevelopment,alsothehighereducation’staskinchina.Torealizethistarget,weshouldawarethatforeignlanguagelearningisabranchofinterculturaleducation.Wetakelanguagesastheintegrationofcultureandsociety.Ourforeignlanguagelearningneedstepwiththedevelopmentofworldeducationandtrytobringupthetalentswithhighercommunicativequality.
