ThisishowtheislandwasformedafterthePakistanearthquake,exceptthatinsteadofaregularvolcano,itwasa“mudvolcano”thatbroughtaboutthisisland.Lavaisnottheonlythingthat'slockedundertheearth'scrust—thereisalsogas.Whenanearthquakehappensandbreakspartofthecrust,thegasisreleasedatanextremelyhighspeed,pushingmuduptothesurface,accordingtoNationalGeographic.

Butonlyearthquakesthatareextremelypowerfulcancausemudvolcanoestopushupenoughmudtoproduceislands—andthis7.7magnitudeearthquakeinPakistanwasstrongenough.Theislandisabout20metreshigh,uptoabout90metreswideand30metreslong,nearlythesizeofasoccerfield.
