Teacherscouldencourageboystoenjoyreadingandwritingwithspecifically“boy-focused”approachessuchasthemesandcharactersthatappealtothem.Becauseboysgenerallyhavemoreacutevision,learnbestthroughtouch,andarephysicallymoreactive,theyneedtobegiven“hands-on”lessonswheretheyareallowedtowalkaround.“Boysinmixedschoolsviewclassicalmusicasfeminine(女性的)andpreferthemodernstyleinwhichviolenceandsexismaremajorthemes,”Jameswrote.

Single-sexeducationalsomadeitlesslikelythatboyswouldfeeltheyhadtoconformtoastereotypethatmenshouldbe“masterfulandincharge”inrelationships.“Inmixedschoolsboysfeelforcedtoactlikemenbeforetheyunderstandthemselveswellenoughtoknowwhatthatmeans,”thestudyreported.
