Gravityistheforcethatmakesanytwoobjectswhenitmovestowardeachother.

Onearth,citieshavebeenfromirongirdersandconcretebeams.Thislargelyinvisiblescaffoldholdsthesebuildingsupagainstthepullofthegravity.Withoutthisscaffoldin,theskyscraperswouldcrumbleandthebridgeswouldcollapse.Thegravitynotonlygovernsusonearth,itgovernsthroughouttheuniverse.Itslawsarestraightforward.Anythingthathasmasshasagravitationalpull.Thegreaterthemass,thestrongerthepull.With200billionstars,theMilkyWayhasahugemassandthetremendousgravitationalattraction.Solikebuildings,ourgalaxyalsoneedspoppingupagainsttheforceofthegravity.

Pointingfiguresaboutanimpendingshutdowncanbegoodpolitics,butanactualshutdownislikelytohurtanypoliticianina50-mileradiusofWashington.Oddsaregoodthey'llfigurethisout,theyhavetillFriday.CandyC.CNN.Washington.
