2.TheRomanConquestIn55B.C.,BritainwasinvadedbyJuliusCaesar,theRomanconqueror.ButassoonastheRomanslandedonshoreoftheisland,theBritonsfoughtlikelionsundertheleadershipoftheirchieftain.AndwiththecomingsandcomingsofmanyRomangeneralswithinthetimeofacentury,BritainwasnotcompletedunderthecontroloftheRomanEmpireuntil78A.D..WiththeRomanConquesttheRomanmodeoflifecameacrosstoBritainalso.Romantheatresandbathsquicklyroseinthetowns.Alltheserefinementsofcivilization,however,werefortheenjoymentoftheRomanconquerorswhilethenativeBritonsweretroddendownasslaves.TheRomanoccupationlastedforabout400years,duringwhichtheRomans,formilitarypurposes,builtanetworkofhighways,latercalledtheRomanroads,whichremainedusefulforalongtimetocome.Alongtheseroadsgrewupscoresoftowns,andLondon,oneofthem,becameanimportanttradingcentre.ItwasalsoduringtheRomanrulethatChristianitywasintroducedtoBritain.Butatthebeginningofthe5thcentury,theRomanEmpirewasintheprocessofdeclining.Andin410A.D.,alltheRomantroopswentbacktothecontinentandneverreturned.ThusendedtheRomanoccupationinBritain.
