Allright. Youngladyrighthere.
QMr.President,IwanttothankyouforgoingtoLatinAmericaacoupleweeksago. AndthisisagreatstorywhereEx-ImBankandGamesaworkedtogethertosupplyover50turbinestoHonduras,forexample.
THEPRESIDENT:
Right.
QIfyoucouldelaboratemoreonyourNationalExportInitiative,Ithinkthatthatwouldbeanamazingthingtotalkabout.
THEPRESIDENT:
Well,that’sagoodpoint. Youguysaresellingsomeofyourturbinesoverseas,partlybecausewhat’scalledtheExport-ImportBank--whichisagovernmentagencythathelpsbusinessesmarkettooverseasmarkets--hookedupwithGamesaandsaw--discoveredthiswaywheretheycouldgetintothatmarket.

Iwanttodoubleourexportsoverthenextfiveyearsandwecandoit. We’vealreadyincreasedourexportsby18percent. Nowthat’sagoodstart,butthatmeanswegotanother80percenttogo. Andthat’swhereusingsomethingliketheExport-ImportBankcanbereallyimportant,becausealotoftheseothercountriesgiveabigadvantagetotheirexporters. Theyhelpgivethemfinancing. Theyhelpthemfindmarkets. Theynegotiatedealsforthem. Andmyattitudeis,well,ifthey’redoingitfortheircompaniesIwanttomakesurewe’redoingitforourcompanies. Youngladyrightthere. Yes,you.
QHi,mynameisSingazaBell(ph). Yes,myquestionisinlightofwhatyoujustsaid. Whatofcorporate3taxincentives4andR&DtaxincentivesthatwillmakecompanieslikeGamesadotheirmanufacturinghere?
Becauseit’sonethingtohavetheknowledgebaseintheUnitedStates,butwereallyneedmanufacturingbackhere.
THEPRESIDENT:
You’reright,andthereasonthatcompanieslocateindifferentplacesiscomplicated. Alotofithastodowiththefactthatlabor1costsmaybelowerinsomeoftheseothercountries,butalotofithastodowithourtaxcode,whichiskindofscrewy(扭曲的,古怪的).

SoIthinkwecanactuallysimplifyit. Butonmanufacturing,taxreformonthecorporatesidecouldmakeadifference. Theotherthing,though,isintermsofencouragingmanufacturing,we’vegottounderstandwhatouradvantageis.
