Thereisastoryaboutsailorsinthe19thcentury.InadangerouspartoftheseaoffthecoastofNewZealand,theylearnttolookforadolphincalledJack.From1871to1903Jackmeteveryboatintheareaandshowedittheway.Thenin1903apassengeronaboatcalledThePenguinshotandwoundedJack.Herecoveredandfornineyearsmorecontinuedtoguideallshipsthroughthearea—exceptforThePenguin.

Today,somepeoplecontinuetokilldolphins,butmanycountriesoftheworldnowprotectthemandintheseplacesitisagainstthelawtokillthem.
