Diabetesisthenameforamedicalconditioninwhichtoomuchglucose(葡萄糖),orsugar,buildsupintheblood. Diabetesdevelopswhenthebodydoesnotmakeenoughofthehormoneinsulin(胰岛素)ormakesnoinsulinatall. Italsocandevelopwhenthebodyisnotabletousetheinsulinthatismade.

Thebodychangesfoodintoasugarcalledglucose. Glucoseentersthebloodandistakentocellsinallpartsofthebody. Insulinhelpsthemuscles,organsandtissues(组织)takeintheglucoseandchangeitintoenergy.

Thepancreas(胰腺)istheorganthatproducesinsulin. Whentoomuchglucoseintheblood,thepancreasproducesthenecessaryinsulinandsendsitintotheblood. Theinsulinreducesthelevelofbloodsugarbylettingitentercells. 

Diabetesispresentwhentoomuchglucoseremainsinthebloodanddoesnotentercells. Iftheamountofglucoseinthebloodremainstoohigh,itbeginstodamagethebody.
