1.telecommunications:

Telecommunications,fromGreek,means“communicationsatadistance”.Telecommunicationsthroughvoice,data,andimagecommunicationischangingtheworld.Theeaseofaccessinginformationandpeopleanywhereatanytimeishavingmajorimpactsonsociety,business,andfinance.Twomajortrendshaveoccurredinthetechnologythatisapplicabletotelecommunications.Thefirsttrendhasbeentheincredibleincreaseintheprocessingpowerofdigitalcomputers,namely,dramaticdecreasesinphysicalsizealongwithequallydramaticincreasesincomplexity,speed,andcapacity.Thesecondtrendhasbeentheexplosivegrowthintransmissioncapacitythroughthewidespreaduseofopticalfiberacrosscontinentsandunderoceans.Thesetwotrendshavehadimpressivelong-termconsequencesfortelecommunicationsaroundtheworld.TheInternetandtheWorldWideWebhavealreadycreatedaglobalsystemfortheaccessofinformation.Ithasbecomepopularthatpeoplecheckflight,weather,andhotelsbeforetravelingtoaforeigncountry.E-mailmakesiteasytokeepincontactinstantlywithcolleaguesandfriendsaroundtheglobe.Butmanyofthepeoplesoftheworlddonotevenhaveatelephone,muchlessaccesstotheInternetandtheinformation.Thechallengetothetelecommunicationsindustryistobridgethedigitalgapandextendtheavailabilityoftelecommunicationstoallpartsoftheplanet.Foranintroductiontothefundamentalsoftelecommunications,pleasecheckoutthewebsitesatandhttp:

 2.opticalfiber:
