Whenacountrydevelopsitstechnology;thetraditionalskillsandwaysoflifedieout.Itispointlesstotryandkeepthemalive.
Towhatextentdoyouagreeordisagreewiththisopinion?
Overall,Idisagreewiththo9eopinionexpressed.Iwouldliketobeginbypointingoutthat‘traditionalskillsandwaysoflife’arenotautomaticallyofonecountry,butofacultureorcommunity.
Inmanyways,thehistoryofcivilisationisthehistoryoftechnology:
fromthediscoveryoffiretotheinventionofthewheeltothedevelopmentoftheInternet,wehavebeenmovingonfrompreviouswaysofdoingthings.Sometechnologies,suchasweaponsofmassdestruction,areofnegativeimpact.Others,suchasmedicaladvances,positivelyhelppeopletolivebetterorlonger,andsoverymuchhelptraditionalwaysoflife.Surely,fewpeoplewouldseektopreservesuchtraditionalaslivingincaves!
Interestingly,technologycanpositivelycontributetothekeepingaliveoftraditionalskillsandwaysoflife.Forexample,thepopulationsofsomeislandsaretoosmalltohavenormalschools.Ratherthanbreakingupfamiliesbysendingchildrentothemainland,educationauthoritieshavebeenabletousetheInternettodeliverschoolingonline.Inaddition,theInternet,andmodernrefrigerationtechniques,arebeingusedtokeepalivethetraditionalskillsofproducingsalmon;itcannowbeorderedfrom,anddeliveredto,anywhereintheworld.
Inconclusion,withoutsuggestingthatalltechnologyisnecessarilygood,Ithinkitisbynomeans‘pointless’,inanyway,totrytokeeptraditionsalivewithtechnology.Weshouldnotignoretechnology,becauseitcanbeourfriendandsupportourwayoflife.
