WhenitcametogenesthatwouldinfluenceLaBranaI'sappearance,theresearchers

foundthattheir7,OOO-year-oldsubjecthadversionsoftwoskinpigment(色素)genesthatare

eitherveryrareornonexistentamongEuropeanstoday.Thentheylookedatotherplacesin

thegenomethatinfluencepigmentation(色素沉着)andfoundamixofancientandmodern

genevariants(变种).Takentogether,LaBranaI'sDNA“islikelytohaveresultedindark

skinpigmentationanddarkorbrownhair,"theywrote.

However,hisDNAindicatesthathiseyesweremostlikelyblue,thescientistsfound.

Thissuggeststhatgenevariantsforlight-coloredeyesandskindidnotspreadtogether,they

wrote,addingthatLaBranaI'scombination“ofdarkskinandnon-browneyesisuniqueand

nolongerpresentincontemporaryEuropeanpopulations."Today,ablue-eyedpersonwould

typicallyhavefairskin.
