Recently,aresearchgroupfromtheUniversityofManchesterhasstudiedthesituationinBritainandtheresultdoesn'tlookgood.

TheresearchshowsBritainisoneofthemostwastefulsocietiesinEurope.InBritain,435milliontonsofrubbisharecreatedthisyearandthenumberisrisingby4%everyyear.Richfamiliesproducemorerubbishthanpoorerones;peopleincitiesthrowmoreawaythanthoseinthecountry;peoplelivingalonewastemorethanthoselivingtogether.TherubbishproblemisbecomingsoseriousthatallthepeopleinBritainneedtocutdowntherubbishtheyproduceeveryday.

Whatpeopleneedtodowiththerubbishisanotherseriousproblem.However,itneverseemsseriousenoughtoupsetthepeoplewhoactuallycreateit—thatis,everyoneinthesociety.

MarkAndrews,abin(垃圾箱)manfromBritain,getsupearlyeverymorningtocollectrubbish.Hethinkspeoplearecarelesswhenitcomestorubbish.“Peopledon'tlikeusingrubbishbags,”Andrewssaid,“Evenwhentheydousethem,theydon'toftentiethemupnicely.Thingsfalloutofthebinseverywhere,creatingabadsmell.”
