Theschool,whichopenedalmost30yearsago,acceptsalltypesofdogsaslongastheyweigh30kg.ButthetypethatseemstobethemostsuitedtothejobareNewfoundland's.Eachdoghastobeabletopullaboatof30peoplebetween300to2,000meters.Thetrainingtakesatleastayearandtherearecurrentlyapproximately400trainedrescuedogsinItaly.Oncelicensed,theownersofthedogs,volunteertheirtimeonthebeaches.

Thedogandownerworkasateamandusethedolphinsystemwhenswimmingtoarescue.Thehandlerholdsontothedogs'harness(挽具)inthewaterandisabletosaveenergytouseintherescuewithoutbeingexhaustedfromtheswim.Besidesbeinglifeguards,graduatesoftheschoolcooperatewithItalianhelicopterrescueteamsincluding:
