Therearepeoplewhocollectsomethingbecausetheywanttomakemoney,andthiscouldbecalledaninstrumentalreasonforcollecting,thatis,collectingasameanstoanend.Theywilllookfor,say,antiques(古董)thattheycanbuycheaplyandexpecttobeabletosellataprofit.Buttheremaywellbeapsychologicalfactortoo:

buyingcheapandsellingdearcankeepthecollectorasenseofachievement.Andassellingonlineissoeasy,morepeoplearejoiningin.

Ifyouthinkaboutcollectingpostagestamps,anotherpotentialreasonforitisitseducationalvalue.Stampcollectingopensawindowtoothercountriesandtotheplants,animalsorfamouspeopleshownonthestamps.Similarly,inthenineteenthcenturymanycollectorsamassed(积累)animalsandplantsfromaroundtheglobeandtheircollectionsprovideavastamountofinformationaboutthenaturalworld.Withoutthosecollections,ourunderstandingwouldbegreatlyinferiortowhatitis.

Ofcourse,notallseniorcitizensfeelsadwhentheyareinfaceofretirement.Workingforsomanyyears,theyeventuallyhavetimetospendwiththeirfamiliesortoenjoytheirhobbiessuchasreading,travelingorjoiningsomeseniorcitizenclubs.Somecontinuetoworkparttime;otherschoosetodovolunteerworklikehelpingyoungpeopletogetstartedinnewbusiness.
