anger,fear,happiness,orsadness.Intheend,thelonelierstudentsdidworsethanthenon-lonelystudentsontheemotion-readingtask—butonlywhentheyweretoldtheywerebeingtestedontheirsocialskills.Whenthelonelyweretoldtheywerejusttakingageneralknowledgetest,theyperformedbetterthanthenon-lonely.

Sothelonelierpeopleare,thebettertheyareataccuratelyreadingfacialexpressionsanddecodingtoneofvoice.Lonelypeoplemaybepayingcloserattentiontoemotionalcues(暗示)preciselybecauseoftheirwillingnesstobelongsomewhereandforminterpersonalconnections,whichresultsintechnicallysuperiorsocialskills.
