AccordingtoPresence,anewbookbyHarvardBusinessSchoolprofessorAmyCuddy,peopleassessyouontwomaincriteriawhentheyfirstmeetyou:

urleveloftrustworthiness,orwarmth,isthemostimportantfactorinhowpeopleinitiallyadmireyou,Cuddysays-yetmanymistakenlybelievethatthesecondfactor,characterisedascompetence,ismoreimportant.“Fromanevolutionaryaspect,”Cuddywrites,“itismoreimportanttooursurvivaltoknowwhetherapersondeservesourtrust.”
