    Therewerealsoprofessionalfacereadersduringthistimewhocombinedtherolesofpriest,astrologerandcounsellor.Theywerewell-educatedmenwithgreatcompassionforhumanfrailty.TheChineseunderstoodtheconceptthatthefacerepresentstheenergies,healthandfortuneofapersonandtheywishedtoliveinharmonywiththese,andwiththeprevailingenergiesofthefiveelements,yinandyang,andtheseasons.ThiswisdomhasseenahugeresurgenceintheWestduringthepast20yearswiththegrowthofacupuncture,Chineseherbalmedicine,FengShuiandQiGong.

    Chinesefacereadingisasrelevanttodayasitwasinthepastanditsuseiscrosscultural.Weallhaveablendofelementsandallfacesreflectpartofnature’spattern.FacereadingfirstappearedinChinaduringthe6thcenturyBC,possiblyasthespecialityof“magicmen”notaffiliatedtoanyreligion.ItisthoughtthattheywereprobablyTaoistshamansfromruralareassuchasSzechwanwhospecialisedinnon-traditionaldivinationalarts.By220BC,theartoffacereadingwasestablishedinChineselifeandclassictreatises,suchastheGoldenScissorsandBambooChronicles,werewrittenatthistime.

ThePrinciplesofFaceReading

    Thestartingprinciplesoffacereadingarethecosmicenergiesofthefiveelementsandyinandyang.Theelementsaresymbolsandrepresentqualitiesofenergywithineachpersonwhicharereflectedintheface.Anelaboratephysical,psychologicalandemotionalprofilecanbebuiltup,incorporatingtheenergiesofthefeatures,the‘lifepoints’oftheface,thethreedivisionsfromtoptobottom（forehead,midfaceandlowerface）whichshowthenervous,circulatoryanddigestivesystemsandthefacialzoneswhichrepresenttheinternalorgans.

TheFireFace
