InternetExpressionsfortheYearof2009and2010
1.Introduction
PopularChineseInternetexpressions,alsofrequentlyreferredtoasNet-language,isanewlybornlanguagemode.Withtherapiddevelopmentofscienceandtechnologyofourera,theInternetisgainingmoreandmorepopularityevenamongcommonpeople.AccordingtostatisticsmadebytheChinaInternetNetworkInformationCenter(CNNIC),thetotalnumberofChinesenetizenshascometo457000000bytheendofDecember,2010withthecoverageratereaching34.3%.Comparedto2009,thereisanincreaseof73300000Internetusersandthecoverageratehasincreasedby5.4percentagepoint.
Asaresult,therehasbeen,overtherecentyearsafloodofpopularChineseInternetexpressionsemergingandflowingineverycornerofthecyberspace.Amongthem,somederivedfromsocialevents,somecamefromculturalexhange,othersappearedalongwiththeadvanceofscienceandtechnology,stillotherswereoutcomeoftheneedsofconvenienceandnoveltyrequiredbytheInternetexchange.Theyhavesubstantiallystimulatedpeople’swisdomandingenuityoflanguageuse,andalsoenlargedourChinesevocabularytoanunimaginableextent.Besides,theyareafashionwhichhasreflectedindividuals’wayoflifeandtheirstateofmindintheInternetage;theyaremorethanjustalanguagephenomenon,butanewsocialandculturalphenomenon.Also,theirEnglishtranslationisnotonlygoodforextendingtheirglobalinfluence,butanindispensiblesupplementtothedevelopmentofhumanlanguage.Therefore,theydeserveourfullattentionandseriousstudy.
Indeed,alongwiththeirpopularity,theydoattractmuchattention.Manyscholarsandlinguilistshavetriedtheirhandsatthisnewsubject.However,thecurrentstudiesinourcountrymostlyconcentrateoncertainaspects.Forexample,PopularChineseInternetExpressionsandTranslationafter2000byChengShuiyingputsemphasisonthedescriptionofEnglishtransltionofNet-languageemergingafter2000;OntheSignificanceofNet-languagebyZhongQiuminplacesparticularstressonthesignificanceofNet-language.Sothisthesiswillgiveacomprehensiveintroductionofthefeatures,influences,translationstrategiesofChineseInternetbuzzwordsaswellasEnglishtranslationofthoseemergingintheyearof2009and2010.
2.FeaturesofPopularChineseInternetExpressions
Inthepresenttime,featuresofChineseInternetcatchphrasescanbeconcludedintothefollowingfiveaspects.
2.1Shorttimeeffectiveness
