Historyoftheautomobile
ThedesignoftheCugnotSteamTrolley(1769)
Thehistoryoftheautomobilebeginsasearlyas1769,withthecreationofsteam-poweredautomobilescapableofhumantransport.In1806,thefirstcarspoweredbyinternalcombustionenginesrunningonfuelgasappeared,whichledtotheintroductionin1885oftheubiquitousmoderngasoline-orpetrol-fueledinternalcombustionengine.Carspoweredbyelectricitybrieflyappearedattheturnofthe20thcenturybutlargelydisappearedfromcommonalityuntiltheturnofthe21stcentury,wheninterestinlow-andzero-emissionstransportationwasreignited.Assuch,theearlyhistoryoftheautomobilecanbedividedintoanumberoferasbasedontheprevalentmethodofautomotivepropulsionduringthattime.Laterperiodsweredefinedbytrendsinexteriorstylingandsizeandutilitypreferences.
