I.SCHOLARSHIPGRANTS:

AllscholarshipsofferedbyNationalGardenClubs,Inc.,hereinafterreferredtoasNGC,areadvancedone-yeargrants,whichareavailabletoJunior,SeniorandGraduatestudents.Applicationsmaybemadebysophomoresforgrantstobeawardedforthejunioryear.Nodoctoralprogramstudentsmayapply.

Thirty-four（34）advancedannualscholarshipswillbeavailablein2010fortheacademicyearof2010-2011,eachintheamountof$3,500.00.

II.PURPOSEOFTHESCHOLARSHIPPROGRAM:

NGCisproudofitsscholarshipprogram,whichoffersfinancialaidtostudentsandpromotesstudyintheAgricultureEducation,Horticulture（inc.FruitScience/Environmental/Communications）,Floriculture,LandscapeDesign,Botany,Biology,PlantPathology/Science,Forestry,Agronomy,EnvironmentalConcerns（Management:

Environmental,HorticultureResource/EnvironmentalBehavior,etc.）,Economics,EnvironmentalConservation（inc.Engineering,Law,etc.）,City（Rural&Urban）Planning,WildlifeScience,HabitatorForest/SystemsEcology,LandManagementand/orotherrelatedoralliedsubjects.Applicantsmustbemajoringinoneofthesefieldsofstudywithacareerrelatedtogardening,landscapedesign,environmentalissues,floraldesignorhorticulture.TheNGCScholarshipCommitteemustgrantapprovalforapplicationtobemadeinanymajorotherthantheoneslisted.

III.TERMSUNDERWHICHSCHOLARSHIPSAREAWARDED:

1）Applicationsmustbesubmittedontherequiredapplicationform（seepage9）withallrequiredadditionalinformationattached（refertoapplicationformandpage8ofbrochure）.

2）ApplicationsmustbemailedtotheStateGardenClubScholarshipChairmanforthestateinwhichtheapplicantisalegalresident.AlistingofStateGardenClubScholarshipChairmenisfoundonpages11-13ofthisbrochure.TheappropriateStateGardenClubScholarshipChairmanmustreceiveallapplicationsbyMarch1,2010.Applicationsreceivedafterthatdatewillnotbeconsidered.

3）AllapplicationsreceivedbyaStateGardenClubScholarshipChairmanwillbejudgedbythatChairmanandcommitteeinordertochooseonewinningapplication.TheNGCScholarshipCommitteewillconsideronlyoneapplicationfromeachstate.（Exception:

TheJanuary2010membershiplistwillbefurnishedtotheNGCScholarshipChairmanbytheNGCTreasurer.Thosestateshaving10,000membersormoreatthetimeofthemembershiplistisissuedwillbepermittedtosubmittwoapplicationsperstate.EligiblestateswillbenotifiedbytheNGCScholarshipChairman.）

4）Applicantsmusthaveatleasta3.25GPA（ona4.0-pointscale）inordertoapply.Acompleteofficialacademictranscript,thatincludesthelatestgradingperiod,mustbeincluded.TheapplicantmustbeafulltimestudentasdefinedbyNGC（12gradedhoursofclassesforanundergraduateand9gradedhoursforpostgraduatestudents.）Graduatestudentsmustalsosubmitcompletetranscriptsforundergraduatecourses.

5）Applicantsmustbeplanningacareerrelatedtogardening,landscapedesign,environmentalissues,floraldesignorhorticulture.

GUIDELINESFORSTATEGARDENCLUBSCHOLARSHIP

CHAIRMEN

1）Pleasereadthepreviouspage,whichsummarizesthescholarshipprogramofNationalGardenClubs,Inc.,andallsubsequentpagesofthebrochurecarefully.

2）CopiesofthisbrochureshouldbefurnishedtocollegesanduniversitiesineachstatefortheuseofFinancialAidOfficersatthoseinstitutionsandbystudentapplicants.Pleasemakeasmanycopiesofthebrochureasneeded.

3）APPLICATIONREQUIREMENTS:

Allapplicantsmustfulfillthefollowingrequirements.Pleasecheckeachapplicationcarefullyforfullcompliance.StudentmustbealegalresidentoftheUnitedStatesattendingacollege/universitywithintheUnitedStates.InternationalandForeignExchangestudentsarenoteligibletoapplyforaNGCscholarship.Thescholarshipcannotbeappliedforstudyabroadonfellowshipsorinternships.

a.ApplicationmustbesubmittedontherequiredNGCapplicationform（page9）.Allformsmustbetypedorcomputergenerated.

b.Applicantsmusthaveatleasta3.25GPA（ona4.0-pointscale）.Acopyofthestudent’scompleteofficialacademictranscriptmustbeincludedwiththeapplicationform.Recordsmustincludethelatestgradingperiod.ForGraduatestudents,thetranscriptsofbothgraduateandundergraduateworkarerequired.Theapplicantmustbeafull-timestudent,enrolledforaminimumof12（twelve）gradedhoursofclasses.PostgraduateapplicantspursuingaMaster’sDegreemusthaveaminimumof9（nine）gradedhours.NoDoctoralprogramstudentsmayapply.

c.Inadditiontotheapplicationform,thefollowingsupplementalinformationalmaterialsmustbeattachedtotheform.

1.Apersonalletterbytheapplicant,discussingbackground,futuregoals,financialneed,andacommitmenttochosencareer.（Limitedtotwotypedorcomputergeneratedpages.Additionalpageswillnotbeaccepted.）

2.Alistofextracurricularactivitiesand/orhonorsreceived.

3.RequiredFinancialAidform（page10）mustbesignedbyschool’sFinancialAidOfficerandstudent.Allquestionsmustbeanswered.

4.Three（3）lettersofrecommendation.Lettersshouldincludethefollowinginformation:

academicachievement,character,andwork-relatedexperience.（Limitedtoone

（1）typedorcomputergeneratedpage.Additionallettersoradditionalpageswillnotbeaccepted.）Pleasedonotincludeanymaterialsotherthanthoserequestedontheapplication.

d.Alloftheabovematerialsaretobeassembledbythestudent,andmailedasacompletepackettotheStateGardenClubScholarshipChairman,whowillthenmailthemtotheNationalScholarshipChairman.NomaterialsshouldbesenttotheNationalScholarshipChairmanasseparatemailings.

IMPORTANT:

Applicationmaterialsshouldsimplybepaperclippedtogether,andmustnotbesubmittedinanysortofnotebookorpermanentcoverorpageprotectors.（ApplicationswillbemailedtoNGCHeadquarterstobecopiedandmailedtothenine-committeemembers.Havingtotakeapartapplicationsinelaboratebindersisveryinconvenientforthecompletionofthisprocess.）

e.PLEASENOTE:

Whenastudentisreapplyingforascholarship（whethertheapplicantisorisnotapreviousscholarshipwinner）,acompletelynewandupdatedapplicationmustbesubmitted.

4）DEADLINES:

EachStateGardenClubScholarshipChairmanmustreceiveallapplicationsonorbeforeMARCH1,2010.

5）Stateshavingfewerthan10,000membersmaysubmitoneapplication.Stateshaving10,000ormoremembersmaysubmittwoapplicationsforconsiderationbytheNGCScholarshipCommittee.InJanuary,theNGCScholarshipChairmanwillnotifyScholarshipChairmenofthestatesthatareeligibletosubmittwoapplications.

6）JUDGINGOFAPPLICATIONS:

A.ATTHESTATELEVEL:

Anappointedcommittee,chairedbytheStateGardenClubScholarshipChairman,shalljudgeallapplicationsreceivedfromstudentswhoarelegalresidentsofthestate.Astudentmayattendanin-statecollege/university,oranout-of-stateschoolofhis/herchoice.Theonlyrequirementisthattheschoolbeanaccreditedcollegeoruniversity.

Afterjudginghasbeencompletedatthestatelevel,theNGCScholarshipChairmanmustreceiveallapplicationsonorbeforeApril1,2010.ApplicationsreceivedpastthatdatewillnotbeconsideredbytheNationalScholarshipCommittee.Acompletedchecklist,foundonpage6,mustaccompanyeachapplication.
