1.OVERVIEW

1.1ABOUTADSL

AnADSLMODEMisabroadbandInternetaccessdevice,whichutilizesthehighfrequencysegmentofthephonelinetotransmithigh-speeddatawithoutaffectingthevoicetransmission.ThefrequencyoftheADSLsignalishigherthanthatofvoice,sovoiceandADSLsignalcancoexistinonelinebyusingasplittertoinsulateeachfromtheother.ADSLdatatransferadaptstheasymmetrymodel.Itsupportsuploadtransmissionspeedupto1Mbpsanddownloadspeedupto8Mbps（24MbpsforADSL2+）.ADSLisanidealdeviceforbroadbandaccess.

1.2ABOUTADSL2/2+

TransmissionperformanceofADSL2isimprovedcomparingwiththefirstgenerationofADSL.Theseimprovementsaremainlyconcernedwithlongdistance,anti-line-loss,anti-noise,etc.Bydoublingthetransmissionbandwidth,ADSL2+hasimplementedadownlinkrateashighas24Mbps.Therefore,Internetapplicationssuchassynchronoustransmissionofmultivideostream,onlinegamesandhugecapacityofdownloadingfilesaremadepossible.

1、UseatelephonecordtoconnecttheLINEportofthesplitterwiththeRJ-11port（thephonejack）onthewall.

2、UseanothertelephonecordtoconnecttheADSLportofthesplitterwiththeLINEportoftheADSLModem.

3、UseanothertelephonecordtoconnectthetelephonesetwiththePHONEportofthesplitter.

4、ConnectEthernetportoftheADSLMODEMwith10/100BASE-Tportofthecomputerusingthenetworkcablethatcomeswiththemodem.

5、Pluginthepowercord,andturnonthepower.

IfyoudonotwantInternetservicesandtelephonevoiceservicessimultaneously,pleasejustconnecttheLINEportoftheADSLModemwiththeRJ-11port（thephonejack）onthewallusingatelephonecord.Inthiscase,thesplitterisnotnecessary.

3.1DEFAULTCONFIGURATION

ADSLMODEMhaspre-configuredwiththefollowingVCI/VPI.Thedefaultdial-upmodeisbridgeencapsulation.Forbridgemode,noneedtoconfigureanymoreparameter.However,thethirdpartydial-upsoftwareisneededforconnectionwiththeInternet

3.2COMPUTERCONFIGURATION

ThedefaultIPaddressforADSLMODEMis:

192.168.1.1;TheSubnetMaskis：

255.255.255.0.UserscanconfigureADSLMODEMthroughanInternetbrowser.ADSLMODEMcanbeusedasgatewayandDNSserver;usersneedtosetthecomputer’sTCP/IPprotocolasfollow:

1、SetthecomputerIPaddressatsamesegmentofADSLMODEM,suchassettheIPaddressofthenetworkcardtooneofthe“192.168.1.2”～“192.168.1.254”.

2、Setthecomputer’sgatewaythesameIPaddressastheADSLModem’s.

3、Setcomputer’sDNSserverthesameasADSLModem’sIPaddressorthatofaneffectiveDNSserver.

3.3ADSLMODEMCONFIGUrATION

3.3.1login

//192.168.1.1attheaddresscolumn.Press“Enter”keythentheentrydialogboxwillshowupasFigure3.1.Input“username”and“password”（capitalsensitive）,thenpressEnter.

3.3.2Savesetting

Aftergettingthrougheachpageforparameterssetting,click“Save”or“Saveapply”tostorethevalueinADSLMODEM.Briefly,wenamed“Save”.

Note：

Whenyousavethesettings,thewebpagewillberefreshedslowly,pleasewaititfinished.

Afteryousavethesettings,itwilltakeeffectuntilnextreboot.

Somesettingsonlytakeeffectafterrebootingtherouter.

3.4WANCONFIGUrATION

Iftheconfigurationisbridgeencapsulation,thereisnoneedtoconfigureanymoreparameters.Onlyneedtousethethirdpartydial-upsoftwaretoconnecttheInternet.

Totally,thisroutersupports：

PPPoA、PPPoE、MER、IPoA、Bridging.Fordetailconfigurationinformation,pleasecheckthefollowingconfigurationguide.

3.4.1CONFIGUrATIONguide

Click“WAN”ontheleftpage,enterinto“WAN”configurationpage.

●Note:

Atmostwecanhaveeightconnections.Ifyouneedtoaddanewconnection,pleasedeleteormodifyanexistingconnection.

3.4.3PPPoECONFIGURATION

PPPoEisalsoknownasRFC2516.ItisamethodofencapsulatingPPPpacketsoverEthernet.

PPPoAisalsoknownasRFC2364andnamedasPeertoPeerProtocoloverATM.AsPPPoE,italsohasallthefeaturesofPPP.Althoughit’sbasedonATMprotocol,thesettingofalltheotherparametersissimilarwithPPPoE.SoweonlyintroducePPPoEindetailhere.

●AuthenticationMode:

AuthenticationmodeofnetworkISP.DefaultisAUTO.

●Connectionondemand:

Whenthismodeisselected,theconnectionthathasnotrafficwithinassigned

disconnecttimeout（e.g.1minute）willbeautomaticallydisconnected.Theconnectionwillbeactivatedagainwhentrafficarrives.Thisfunctionisadvantageousforuserswhoarechargedwithonlinetime.ItshouldbenoticedthatsomeprogramsautomaticallylinktoInternet.Computerwillsenddatatonetworkwheninfectedbyvirus.Connectionwillnotbedisconnectedunderthesedatastreams.

●Disconnecttimeout:

When“Connectionondemand”isselected,thisinputboxindicatesthatafterhow

longtheconnectionwillbedisconnectedintheabsenceoftraffic.Ifthevalueis0,connectionwillnotbedisconnected.
