（6）Muchhorrorliteratureisgroundedinsuperstition，fearofdemons，andthedreadofdeath.Nosingletalebringsalloftheseelementstogethersowellasthevampirelegend，anancientfolksuperstition.Thevampireisdescribedasundead，anentombedindividualwhoriseseachnighttofeedonthebloodoftheliving.InliteratureitsbestrepresentationisDracula（1897）byBramStoker.ThelegendwasretoldinInterviewwiththeVampire（1976）byAnneRice.TheDraculastorywaseagerlytakenupbyHollywoodinthe1931filmthatstarredBelaLugosi，andnumerousmoviesonthethemehavebeenmadesince.

intheOldTestament，KingSaulcallsuptheghostofSamueltoforetelltheoutcomeofabattle.InShakespeare’sHamlet，theghostoftheslainkingprovidestheinformationfromwhichHamletplotsrevengeforhisfather’smurder.OneofthemastersofthemodernghoststorywasAmbroseBierce，someofwhosestorieswerecollectedinGhostandHorrorStoriesofAmbroseBierce（1964）.Avariationontheghostthemeisthehauntedhouse，aboutwhichhundredsofstorieshavebeenwritten.
