Henevercomplained,atleastnotwhenwekidswerearound,butIcouldtellhisjobwasrough.Everymorninghegrabbedhislunchbagandkissedmymom.ThenIwouldstandatthewindowwavingashebackedoutofthedrivewayinthatbeat-uptruck.Hewouldalwaysgivemeasmile,wavebackandblowakissbeforeturningdowntheroadtowork.

Lateintheevening,Iwouldhearthetruckrattleupthedriveandlookouttoseeawearymandraghiswayupthewalkwaytothedoor.Asheenteredthehouse,abrightsmilewouldflashacrosshisfaceandhewouldgatherusupforabighug.ItwasduringthesehugsthatIfirstnoticedthestained,roughhandsandthewrinkledsignsofhardwork.

Everydayourritualcontinued.Everydaywehadfoodonthetableandawarmwelcometolivein.everydayheshowedmetheresultsofhardworkandthejoyofalovinghome.
