LittleWomenisanovelpublishedin1868andwrittenbyAmericanauthorLouisaMayAlcott.ThestoryconcernsthelivesandlovesoffoursistersgrowingupduringtheAmericanCivilWar.ItwasbasedonAlcott'sownexperiencesasachildinConcord,Massachusettswithherthreesisters,Anna,May,andElizabeth.LittleWomenisthestoryofTheMarches,afamilyusedtohardtoilandsuffering.AlthoughFatherMarchisawaywiththeunionarmies,thesistersMeg,Jo,AmyandBethkeepinhighspiritswiththeirmother,affectionatelynamedMarmee.TheirfriendlygiftofaChristmasholidaybreakfasttoaneighbouringfamilyisanactofgenerosityrewardedwithwealthyMr.Laurence'sgiftofasurpriseChristmasfeast.However,despitetheireffortstobegood,thegirlsshowfaults:
theprettyMegbecomesdiscontentedwiththechildrensheteaches;boyishJoloseshertemperregularly;whilethegolden-hairedschoolgirlAmyisinclinedtowardsaffectation.However,Beth,whokeepsthehouseisalwayskindandgentle.AftercertainhappytimeswinningovertheLaurences,darktimesarriveasMarmeefindsoutaboutherhusband'sillness.WorseistocomeasBethcontractsscarletfeverinherSamaritaneffortsforasickneighbourandbecomesmoreorleaninvalid.Thenoveltellsoftheirprogreintoyoungwomanhoodwiththeadditionalstrainsofromance,Beth'sterminalillness,thepressuresofmarriageandtheoutsideworld.Thisisthestoryoftheirgrowingmaturityandwisdomandthesearchforthecontentedneoffamilylife.Itwaswrittenin1867andisafictionalisedbiographyofAlcottandhersisters.Ithasbecomeamuchlovedclassictaleand,whilesomeofitsissuesseemoutdated,manyofthetrialsofthesistersarealltoorelevanttodayasevidencedbyitscontinuedfollowing.

LittleWomanwaswrittenbyAmericanfemalewriterAlcott.Afterreadingthisnovel,Ihavesomeopinionsaboutthesefourwomen.
ThenoveldescribedfoursistersintheMarchfamily;theywerekindtoeachotherandloveeachother,hardworking,stayedwithneighborLaurencefriendly.Differentdispositiongirlshadfoundtheirownhappythroughtheirowngoodnessandindustrious.Thenovelhasnotafluctuationplotandfascinatingsuspensioninaplay,buttheauthordescribedthehappinessinMarchfamilywiththesimplelanguage.Theirgoodandkind,loyaltytoloveandfamilyhasleftmeadeepimpression.Theauthoronlydescribedveryordinarydetailinthelife,butrevealsthelovetothehappylifeexpectationeverywhere.
Althoughthesegirlsborninapoorfamily,buttheyallhadthepositiveattitudetoanymatter,thenovelhadlaidemphasisontheirindividualityandthedignity,butalsohasdisplayedtheirself-expressionrestraint.Independentlywasthesefourgirlsscommoncharacteristic,theyalwayskeepdiscoveringtheirownshortcomingandcorrectitassoonaspossiblewhichworthourlearning.Lookwe,somepeoplealwaysmakemistakes,buttheyalwaysthinkthatitisasmallmistake;theydontneedtonoticeit,letitgo.Ifeveryonelikethem,thesocietywillbecomeveryawful,norulecanlimitpeoplesbehaviors,theycandoanythingtheylike.
Thesefourgirlsareverydifferent,letmeintroducethem,Meg,theeldestofthefour,wassixteen,andverypretty,beingplumpandfair,withlargeeyes,plentyofsoft,brownhair,asweetmouth,andwhitehands,ofwhichshewasrathervain.Fifteen-year-oldJowasverytall,thin,andbrown,andremindedoneofacolt,forsheneverseemedtoknowwhattodowithherlonglimbs,whichwereverymuchinherway.Shehadadecidedmouth,acomicalnose,andsharp,grayeyes,whichappearedtoseeeverything,andwasbyturnsfierce,funny,orthoughtful.Herlong,thickhairwasheronebeauty,butitwasusuallybundledintoanet,tobeoutofherway.RoundshouldershadJo,bighandsandfeet,aflyawaylooktoherclothes,andtheuncomfortableappearanceofagirlwhowasrapidlyshootingupintoawomananddidn'tlikeit.Beth,aseveryonecalledherwasarosy,smooth-haired,bright-eyedgirlofthirteen,withashymanner,atimidvoice,andapeacefulexpressionwhichwasseldomdisturbed.HerfathercalledherLittleTranquility,andthenamesuitedherexcellently,forsheseemedtoliveinahappyworldofherown,onlyventuringouttomeetthefewwhomshetrustedandloved.Amy,thoughtheyoungest,wasamostimportantpersoninherownopinionatleast.Aregularsnowmaiden,withblueeyes,andyellowhaircurlingonhershoulders,paleandslender,andalwayscarryingherselflikeayoungladymindfulofhermanners.Whatthecharactersofthefoursisterswerewewillleavetobefoundout.
IloveMegforherbeinggladtoimpoverishforlove,notenticedbythemoney.Shedidfamilyteachertohelpthefamily.IloveJoforherfreeandeasy,likesherforthesteadfastdeterminationwhichshestrugglesfordream.SheearnslivingexpenseswithauntMarchandwritesarticlesforthenewspapertogainthepaymenttoincreasethedailynecessitiestothefamily.IloveBethforhertranquilcharacteristic,doinganythingwithoutanycomplain.Likehergoodpersonalcharacterwhichalwaysconsidersforothers,shelovesmusicandfeelsshywithstrangers,soshealwaysdoessomehouseworkwithhermotherathome.IalsoloveAmyforherstrongdesire;sheregardsupportingthepoorpeopleasherownfaith.Shewasinterestedinsketch.Thoughtheirideaandthedestinyarevarious,theyhadallfoundtheirownlove.
Intheireyes,thefamilywasnotonlytheplaceofgrowthbutalsotheholyrefuge.Theylikedtoheartheirmother'sinstructioncarefully;theycreatedgamesbytheircleverbrainandhandswhichcanbeautifythemind.Foursisters'growthcourseswereasifaninteresteducationpoem.Theauthorhadshownusthehumanity'sgreatdearonessuchasfriendshipandlovewithordinarylanguage.Inmyopinion,itwillbethehappiestmatterifthesefoursisterscanlivewiththosewhotheylove.Theyareallgoodperson,ifIcanlivewiththem,Ithinkmyleftwillbecomerichandcolorful.
Anoldsayingsaidthatthreewomencanplayaperformance,womanalwayshavetheirownidea,iftheideahasformed,andalmostnoonecanchangeit.Whenwomenmeet,ifonetalksheropinionaboutsomething,anotheronewillgiveheropiniontothefirstone,thentheargumentwilltakeplace,letsimagine,therewerefourwomeninonefamily,thoughtheyaresister,argumentcantavoid,itwillbeveryinterestinginthehome.
Fromthenovel,Ihavelearnedthatweshouldkeephopeforfutureandmakegreateffortstoseekdream.Ialsohavelearnedtocherishwhatyouhavehadsuchasyourparents,timeandsoon,weshoulddiscovereveryone'smeritbuttotakethecoloredeyetoseeothersshortcoming.

BeforeIreadthisbook,IhadwatchedacartoonmoviemadebyJapan.SoIhaveastronginterestonit.
Itallbeginsinthedeadofwinter;TheChristmasSeason.Thecoldestoneofall,werethewarhasmadefuelforheatingveryscarce.Whileherhusbandisoffatwar,Marmeeisleftalonetoraisetheirfourdaughters:
Jo,Meg,Beth,andAmy.
OnChristmasEve,Marmeehasjustarrivedhomefrompassingoutfoodtothelessfortunatewithaletterfromherhusband,thegirls'father.Theallgathertogetheraroundthefiretoreadtheletter.Afterwards,thegirlsaretearyeyed.Marmeekissesthemandtheyareofftobed.
Joislongingtobecomeawriter.So,everynightshestaysuplatewritingthescriptforsoapoperas.Asmorningcomessheisthelastoneawake.Thetableisset,andfoodpreparedfortheirChristmasfeast.
Asduskfalls,thegirlsareallupintheatticactingoutJo'splay,whichshereadsfromthelocal(fake)newspaper.Astheyareperforming,theirrich,next-doorneighborsgrandsonwatchesfromthewindow.

JoandMeg,getreadytoattendtheChristmasBall.WhileJoiscurlingMeg'shair,thereisastrangesmelltotheair.Amyscreams,Megshairisbeingsinged.Theycontinuediggingthroughtheoldclothesbinforapairofwhitegloves.
OneoftheprominentthemesinLittleWomenisthecomingofageormaturationofthegirls.Duringthecourseofthenovelweseethemgrowinmanyways--physically,intellectually,andespeciallyemotionally.OnequestionwhichreadersmustaskthemselvesiswhethertheviewsthecharactershaveonthecomingofageprocessaresharedbyAlcott.Iftheyaren't,whatareAlcott'sviewsandhowdotheydifferfromthoseofthewomeninherstory?
ItisinterestingtoexaminethelasthalfofChapter20,Confidential.JoaddressesthematurationissueasshespeakswithMarmeeofthesituationbetweenMegandMr.Brooke.Thepossiblelovebetweenthesetworepresentsoneoftheveryimportantaspectsincomingofageforateenagegirl.Jotreatsthisnaturalprocessasifitweresomesortofdisease,however.JocannotunderstandwhyMegwouldwanttostopbehavinglikeasensiblecreature(p.202),andreferstoloveassuchnonsense.
