Butthe70yearoldman'sstorywiththeworld'shighestmountainstarteddecadesago,whenXiajoinedtheChinesemountaineeringteamin1974.Duringhisfirstclimbin1975,theyoungXiagavehissleepingbagtoateammatewhohadlosthisownduetophysicalexhaustion.Whentheyreachedthefootofthemountain,Xiadiscoveredthathisfeethadnofeeling.Unfortunately,hislegshadtobeamputated.However,hedidnotfeelregretfulforstartingthemissionorforgivingupthechanceofsurvivaltoothers.Helatergotprosthetic(假肢的)legs.Tofulfillhisdreamofreachingthetopofthemountain,hetrainedeverydayanddidoutdoorsports.However,Xialaterdiscoveredthathehadlymphcancer(淋巴癌),andhehadtoworkharderinsteadofgivingup.

In2014,herestartedhischallengeofclimbingthemountain,buthadtostopduetoanavalanche(雪崩).In2016,hisattemptwasstoppedagainbecauseofanearthquakeandblizzard.
