Bornintotheweek-oldex-SovietstateofArmenia,Ihavegrownupinatimeofhugepoliticalupheaval.Surroundedbyan-everchangingeconomicenvironment,Irememberaskingmyfatherwhatexchangerateswere.Inreturn,whenpresentedwithananalogyofsupplyanddemandthatinvolvedanarrayoffarmyardanimals,littledidIappreciatethatIhadcomeacrossthebasisforeconomics.IhavesinceobservedArmenia'srapiddevelopment,butalsoevidenceofpoormacroeconomicmanagement,suchasthelingeringpresenceofmonopolies-cripplingtothecountry'sglobalcompetitiveness.Overtheyears,myinitialchildhoodcuriosityhasgrownintoapassionforeconomics.

AsaPhysicsandMathsstudent,Iderivegreatsatisfactionfromsolvingproblemsthatinitiallyseemimpossible.RepresentingmyschoolattheUKMTSeniorMathsChallenge,aswellasthenationalfinalsoftheScienceandTechnologyChallenge,Ibuiltupakeenopen-mindednessfornewideas.Gametheory,anditsapplicationsineconomics,areofgreatinteresttomeandhavehelpedmebetterappreciatethesheerscopeofthediscipline.Ifinditparticularlyinterestinghowoligopolistsusegametheorytoanticipatecompetitors'actions,comparingtherisksandpotentialbenefitsofcertainbusinessstrategies,becausethisinevitablyinvolvesadegreeofpsychologyandphilosophy-atestamenttothediversenatureofeconomics,whichisbeautifullydemonstratedbytheprisoner'sdilemma.

Involvingmyselffullywithmyschoolhasreallyhelpedtotransformmyeducationalexperience;IwasrecentlyelectedHeadBoybystaffandstudents,followingacampaignthathelpeddevelopmyinterpersonalskills,nottomentionthecapacitytotakeoncriticism,asIworkedwithawiderangeofpeople.Workingsuccessfullywithotherscontinuestobeakeyfeatureofmyschoolcareer.Inparticular,helpingyoungerpupilsinmyfreetimeandbeingabletocontributetotheirdevelopmenthasbeenarewardingandinvaluableexperience.ThelatterisespeciallytruenowthatIworkasanassistanttutoratalearningcentre,whereIamdirectlyresponsibleforuptosixchildren.InmyroleasHeadBoy,Ihavedemonstratedmyabilitytolead;justrecently,IorganisedandperformedinatheatresketchthatwaspresentedtoapanelfromInvestorinCareers-anawardthattheschoolthenwon.Outsideschool,Ienjoytakingpartinavarietyofsports,andamcurrentlysettingupinter-formtournamentstobeheldinthesixthform.Ilookforwardtotherigoursandchallengesofaneconomicsdegreeandwouldhopetobeabletocontributefullytotheuniversitycommunity.

WorkexperiencethatIhaverecentlycompletedatSouthStaffordshireCouncil（Accounts&FinanceDepartment）hasenforcedmycomprehensionofthefunctionalapplicationsofeconomics.HavingattendedanopendayatPricewaterhouseCoopersIhavelearntabouttheassortmentofcareersthatcomeaboutfromthestudyofEconomics,andtheeverydayworkinvolved

AtschoolIhavebeenhandedmanyresponsibilities,includingbeing'formleader'andbeingassignedtheroleofaprefect.SkillsIhavebuiltfromtheseresponsibilitiesincludetheorganizationsofothers,alongwithteamworkandtheabilitytorepresentmyfellowpupils.MyotherareasofinteresthaveprovidedmewiththeopportunitytoattendlecturesonchemistryatVilliersPark,BirminghamwhereIwaschosentorepresentmyschool.Currently,IaminvolvedincompletinganAVCEICTcourseatmyschool,whichhasenabledmetohavetheabilitytostrengthenandvastlyincreasemyskillsinInformationCommunicationTechnology
