ThefollowingchaptersprovideatutorialonusingtheIE3D12package.ThefocusisonthepolygonbasedlayouteditorMGRID,objectbasedschematic-layouteditorIE3DLIBRARY,theintegratedcircuitsimulatorMODUA,andthepatterndisplaypost-processorPATTERNVIEW.
FromIE3D11toIE3D12,wehaveseenmuchimprovementonIE3D.OneofthemostimportantimprovementsistheintroductionofAutomaticGeometrytoIE3DFlow(AGIF).AGIFcontainstheAutomaticGDSIItoIE3DFlowallowinguserstocreatecomplicatedplanarand3DstructuresfromlayoutsinGDSIIformat.ItalsocontainstheCadenceVirtuosotoIE3DFlowforRFICdesigns,andCadenceAllegrotoIE3DFlowforPCBdesigns.TheAGIFflowssimplifythemodelcreationprocesssignificantly.Byjustoneclick,ausercanbuildacomplicatedlayoutconsistingofwirebonds,vias,groundandplaneplaneswiththicknessandsolderballs,pinviasintosome3DmodelssuitableforIE3Dfull-waveEMsimulations.ThesecondimportantimplementationoftheEMSocketallowingIE3DintegratedintoMicrowaveOffice(MWO)fromAppliedWaveResearch,Inc.TheEMSocketallowsuserstorunIE3DsimulationsseamlesslyinsideMWO.ItcombinestheeaseofuseofMWOandpowerfulEMcapabilitiesofIE3D.TheEMSocketismuchimprovedontheIE3D12.
InIE3D11.5,wehaveintroducedtheIE3DFull-waveAcceleratedSimulationTechnologyAlgorithm(FASTA).IE3DFASTAallowsIE3DtosimulategenerallylargestructuresusingsignificantlyreducedRAMandinafractionofthetimefortheoriginalIE3Dsimulations.IE3DFASTApreservesthefull-wavefeatureofIE3Dwhileitreducesthecomputationaleffortssignificantlywithslightlyreducedaccuracy.

Full-waveEMtuning,optimizationandsynthesisrequireuserstoparameterizestructures.Tosimplifytheparameterizationprocessandenhancethecapabilityofparameterization,wehavefurtherimprovedourschematic-layouteditor,ortheIE3Dlibrary.Wehaveintroducedequation-basedgeometrymodelinginIE3Dlibrary11.x.Now,weintroduceBooleanobjectsandvoidobjectstoallowparameterization,full-waveEMtuning,optimizationandsynthesisofsophisticatedplanarand3DstructuresonIE3Dlibrary.
RFICdesignhasbecomeaveryimportantaspectoffull-waveEMdesigns.OnIE3D12,wehaveimplementedautomaticextractionandoptimizationoflumpedcircuitequivalentcircuitfromIE3Dsimulations.ThefeaturemakesIE3DveryhandyforRFICdesigners.
