  Shewasseducedbyaso-calledgentlemanAlec,andfromthenonherlifetotallychangedfromthislossofinnocence.Peoplelookeddownonherandrespectedhernomore.Actuallyshedidnothingwrongbecausebeforeshewasseducedsheknewnothingofmen.Shewasjustagirlwhenshefirstmetthatterribleman.

  Shewasforcedbythegossipsandthechurchtoblameherselfforthis

  accident,soshethoughtshedeservednothinggood.Inordertogetridofthepastshedecidedtogotoadistantdairyfarmbutwasstillsayingtoherselfthatshewaswrong.MaybeGoddidn’taGREewiththat,becausetheLordgavehersomeoneshelovedwithherwholeheartandlifeAngelChare.Angelpoppedthequestiontoherbutsherefusedhimwithoutsayingwhy.Shesaidshelovedhimdeeplyandperhapsnooneintheworldcouldlovehimmorethanshedidbutshecouldnotmarryhimforsomeunspokenreason.Angelwasn’tsatisfiedwiththisvagueansweranddidhisbesttowinTess.Somehowsheagreedandtheysoonfixedtheweddingday.SoonaftertheirweddingAngelconfessedthecrimehecommittedtoawomanlongtimeagoandaskedforTess’sforgiveness.TesswasnotatallangryandforgaveAngelatonce;infactshewasratherhappyandexcitedforshealsohadthingstoconfess.

  ShesatandtoldeverythingtoAngel,hopinghewouldforgiveherashewasforgivenbutshewaswrong.Shewasnotforgiven,notasshethoughtshewas.Thewomanpays.

Shedidnothingwrongbutshehadtobearalltheseadversitiesthatshedidn’tdeserve.AtthattimeIwasjustanaivelittlegirlinjuniorhighschool.

  Nowreviewingthisfamousnovelagain,Irealizethatthereisstillmuchtobefoundandthoughtaboutinit.GreatasHardyis,hedefinitelywantedtotellreadersmorethanatragicstorypurely.
