Inresponse,bothMeituanandEle.me,whichacquiredBaiduWaimaiinAugust,havepromisedtotakemeasurestoreduceplasticwaste.Meituanannouncedthatitwouldappointachiefenvironmentalofficertooverseeenvironmentalissuesfromplasticwasteandupgradeitssmartphoneapptoprovideconsumerswiththeoptionoforderingfoodwithoutsingle-usechopsticks,spoonsornapkins.Ele.mefollowedbyofferingasimilarchoiceandputtingforwardaplantointroducesuppliersofdegradable（可降角军的）plasticutensilstorestaurantsinthelongterm.
