MarkTwainleftschoolwhenhewastwelve.Hehadlittleschooleducation.Thoughhehadlittleschooleducation,hebecamethemostfamouswriterofhistime.Hemademillionsofdollarsbywriting.HisrealnamewasSamuelLanghorneClemens,butheisbetterknownallovertheworldasMarkTwain,hispenname.

MarkTwainwasbornin1835andhewasnotahealthybaby.Infact,hewasnotexpectedtolivethroughthefirstwinter.Butwithhismother'stendercare,hemanagedtosurvive.Asaboy,hecausedmuchtroubleforhisparents.Heusedtoplayjokesonallofhisfriendsandneighbors.Hedidn'tliketogotoschool,andheconstantlyranawayfromhome.HealwayswentinthedirectionofthenearbyMississippi.Hewasnearlydrownedninetimes.

Afterhisfather'sdeathin1847,MarkTwainbegantoworkforaprinter,whoonlyprovidedhimwithfoodandclothing.Then,heworkedasaprinter,ariver-boatpilot（领航员）andlaterjoinedthearmy.Butshortlyafterthathebecameaminer.Duringthisperiod,hestartedtowriteshortstories.Afterwardshebecameafull-timewriter.

In1870,MarkTwaingotmarried.IntheyearsthatfollowedhewrotemanybooksincludingTomSawyerin1876,andHuckleberryFinnin1884,whichmadehimfamous,andbroughthimagreatfortune.

Unfortunately,MarkTwaingotintodebtsinbadinvestments（投资）andhehadtowritelargenumbersofstoriestopaythesedebts.In1904,hiswifediedandthenthreeoftheirchildrenpassedaway.

Attheageof70,hishairwascompletelywhite.Heboughtmanywhitesuitsandneckties.HeworenothingbutwhitefromheadtofootuntilhisdeathonApril21,1910.
