Hopingtoprovethistheory,Jaremkaandherresearchteamputvolunteersthroughastresstest.Duringthetest,volunteerswereaskedtomakeanunpreparedspeechinfrontofagroupofstony-facedpeole.Theresearchersfoundthatvolunteerswhosaidtheywerelonelyintheirdailylivesfeltmorestressduringthetest.Andtheirbloodsamplesshowedthatallthestresshadmanagedtocauseharmfulchangestotheirimmunesystem.
