WilliamBlighin1814ViceAdmiraloftheBlueWilliamBligh,FRS(9September1754-7December1817)wasanofficeroftheBritishRoyalNavyandcolonialadministrator.HeisbestknownforthefamousmutinythatoccurredagainsthismandaboardHMAV(HisMajesty'sArmedVessel)BountyandtheremarkablevoyagehemadetoTimorontheBounty'slaunchafterbeingsetadriftbythemutineers.ManyyearsaftertheBountymutinyhewasappointedGovernorofNewSouthWales,withabrieftocleanupthecorruptrumtradeoftheNSWCorps.HehadsomesuccessinhistaskbutquicklyfacedoppositionwhichculminatedintheRumRebellionledbyJohnMacarthur.
AlthoughWilliamBlighwascertainlynottheviciousmanportrayedinpopularfiction,someclaimhisover-sensitivityandacidtonguedamagedwhatwouldhaveotherwisebeenadistinguishedcareer.
