OnedayPetersfoundadeadsquirrelwithanutstillinitsmouthandthatday’scoffeebreakdiscussionturnedintosquirrelsafety.ThegroupofbusinessmencookedupthesquirrelbridgeideaandformedacommitteetoasktheblessingoftheCityCouncil(市政会).Thecouncilapproved,andCouncilwomanBessLaRivierejokinglynamedthebridge“NuttyNarrows”.

Afterarchitectsdesignedthebridge,AmosPetersandBillHutchstartedconstruction.Theybuiltthe60-footbridgefromaluminum(铝)andlengthsoffirehose(消防水带).Itcost$1,000.
