ImmigrantsfromaroundtheworldhelpedshapeAmericanlife.ManyimmigrantsabsorbedthecustomsandlanguagecommontomostAmericans.Theyalsobroughttheirowntraditions,includingmusicandfoods.Overtime,manyofthesetraditionshavebecomepartofAmericanlife.

ThefirstEuropeanimmigrantstoAmericahopedtocolonize（使成为殖民地）newlands.Bythemid-1500s,SpaniardshadventuredintoFlorida,California,andtheAmericanSouthwest.Frenchimmigrantsarrivedintheearly1600s.Theyestablished13coloniesalongAmerica’sAtlanticCoast.

Inthe1700s,EnglandbecamethemajorpowerincolonialNorthAmerica.ButmanyEuropeanimmigrantscametoliveintheEnglishcolonies.TheyincludedpeoplefromSweden,Holland,Germany,Scotland,andIreland.
