graduated.TherehadbeenamistakeandtherewasjustonemoreclassIneeded

totake.Iwasalwayssorelievedtowakeupandrealizethatithadonlybeena

baddream.Inreality,Ihadpletedeverycourseneededformydegree,andI

wasafull-fledgedcollegegraduate!

Now,therestofmylifeloomedaheadofme.Sometimesabachelor’sdegree

preparesyouforaspecificoccupation——youtraintobeanaccountant,you

graduateandgetapositioninanaccountingfirm.Often,however,yourstintin

collegeonlypreparesyoutomakefurtherdecisionsregardingyourfuture.

You’reprettysurewhatyoudon’twanttodo!

Duringmysenioryearofcollege,Ihadtoyedwiththeideaofchangingmy

major.Atthatpoint,Ihadfinallydiscoveredwhatcapturedmyheart.But,

wantingtofinallybefinishingschoolwasastrongerpull.So,Itookafew

coursesinphysiologyandexercisescience,butnotenoughtoreceiveadegree

inphysicaltherapy.Thatwouldrequireadvancedschooling,beyondmybachelor’s

degree——andIjustwasn’treadytotacklethat.HavingpletedmyB.C.degree,

Ididn’thaveanyintentionsoffurtheringmyeducation.

So,Ididthesafethingandgotanofficejob——theverythingIwassure

thatIdidn’twanttodo!

Idetestedtheofficepolicies,thesuitsIhadto

wearandthedowntownenvironmentthatIhadtodrivetoeveryday.Iknewthis

wasnotwhereIbelonged.

Butgodknewwhatpathmycareerwastofollow.Apositionopenedupatthe

mostexclusivehealthclubinourcity,soIapplied.Thiswasmykindof

environment——anactive,vibrantkindofplace——pletelyattheoppositeendof

thespectrumfromtheofficeenvironmentwhereIfoundmyself.Theposition

requiredthatIworkSaturdaynightsandSundaymornings.Perfect,Ithought!

couldkeepmyofficejobMondaythroughFridayandworkatmydreamjobonthe

weekends.Thisarrangementlastedseveralmonthsuntil,eventually,afull-time

positionopenedupandIwasabletoresignfrommyofficejob.

Overthenextfewyears,Iworkedmywayuptheleader,gainingexperience

inseveraldifferentdepartments.Ifoundmynicheasthedirectorofmember

services——cateringtoourclienteleandprovidingthemwithnumerous

cutting-edgeprograms.Iwouldhavestayedatthatjobforever——itseemedtobe

thepinnacleofallmydreamsfulfilled.Herewerefellowemployeeswhohada

passionforthesamethingsthatIdid——healthandfitness.Yetagain,godhad

otherplansformylife.Withintwoyears,anewer,bigger,betterandmore

state-of-the-arthealthclubfacilitywasbuilt——justfivemilesdowntheroad.

And,inturn,theownerlostmanymemberstothatclub.And,inturn,theowner

lostthousandsofdollars.Onebyonewewereeachlaidoff.

Aftertryingunsuccessfullytolandanothersimilarpositionelsewhere,I

knewwhatIhadtodo.Gobacktoschool!

remark,wecaninferthat,ofalltheadvantageouscharacteristics,perseverance

playsacrucialroleinone’ssuccess.

istomaintainthem,refreshthemandturnthemintoreality.However,the

toughestpartisthatweoftenhavenoideashowtotranslatethesedreamsinto

actions.Well,juststartwithconcreteobjectivesandsticktoit.Don’tlet

thenamelessfearconfusetheeyeandconfoundourstrongbeliefoffuture.

Throughourtalents,throughourwits,throughourenduranceandthroughour

creativity,wewillmakeit.

Holdfasttodreams,forifdreamsdie,lifeisabroken-wingedbirdthat

cannotfly.Holdfasttodreams,forwhendreamsgo,lifeisabarrenfield

frozenwithsnow.Somydearfriends,thinkofyouroldandmaybedeaddreams.
