IthaslongbeenknowntheancientEgyptianrulers,orpharaohs（法老）,wereburiedwithgreatceremonyandlavish（大量的）treasuresthatweretobeusedintheotherworld.

Unfortunately,until1922noremainsofanyofthepharaohsortheirtreasureshadeverbeenfound.Inthatyear,however,anarchaeologistnamedHowardCarterandhissponsor,LordCarnavon,wereatlastsuccessful.TheyfoundthetombofKingTutankhamen,whowasburied3,200yearsago.KingTut'stombwasthefirstfullypreservedburialsitetobeuncoveredinEgypt'sValleyoftheKings.Thetwomenfoundthetombtocontainwonderfultreasures.Goldfiguresandmagnificentfurnituredecoratedwithgoldwerefoundinthemyriad（许多）ofsecretroomsandtunnelswithinthepyramid.

TheonlydisappointmentforHowardCartercamewhenhefoundthatKingTut'sbodywasnothingbutdust.Apparentlyamistakehadbeenmadewhentheking'sremainsweremummified（使成木乃伊）.Carterdid,however,find143piecesofjewelrywithinthemummycase,mostlymadeofgoldandpreciousstones.

Actually,despiteallthepublicityabouttheremarkablefindsinhistomb,Tutankhamen'sreign（统治时期）aspharaohwasshortandrelativelyuneventful（太平的）.Hediedwhenhewasjust18yearsold.
