Thehugeanimalalsoborefiveotherbulletwoundsfromthreedifferentcalibers(口径)ofhuntingguns,aswellasmanydentsandscars,whichshowsthatitsurvivedmanyfirearminjuriesinthepast.Itdidnothowever,survivethesix50-caliberbulletsfiredathimbythegroupofamateurhuntersfromJackson,whowerefinallyabletotakeitdown.

Thebulletswereconfirmedastruemusketfrombetween1850and1870.ThisincredibleanimalbringsawholenewviewonthislargeanimalnativetothesoutheasternUnitedStates.Americanalligatorshavebeenknownforyearstolivewellover50yearsandwerethoughtcapableofpossiblylivingaslongas70or80years,butthisonewasestimatedtohavebeen185yearsoldatthetimeofitsdeath.
