Discussion:

1.Somepeoplethinkthatstrictpunishmentsfordrivingoffencesarethekeytoreducingtrafficaccidents.Others,however,believethatothermeasureswouldbemoreeffectiveinimprovingroadsafety.Discussboththeseviewsandgiveyourownopinion.

Peoplehavedifferingviewswithregardtothequestionofhowtomakeourroadssafer.Inmyview,bothpunishmentsandarangeofothermeasurescanbeusedtogethertopromotebetterdrivinghabits.

Ontheonehand,strictpunishmentscancertainlyhelptoencouragepeopletodrivemoresafely.Penaltiesfordangerousdriverscanactasadeterrent,meaningthatpeopleavoidrepeatingthesameoffence.Therearevarioustypesofdrivingpenalty,suchassmallfines,licencesuspension,driverawarenesscourses,andevenprisonsentences.Theaimofthesepunishmentsistoshowdangerousdriversthattheiractionshavenegativeconsequences.Asaresult,wewouldhopethatdriversbecomemoredisciplinedandalert,andthattheyfollowtherulesmorecarefully.

Ontheotherhand,Ibelievethatsafedrivingcanbepromotedinseveraldifferentwaysthatdonotpunishdrivers.Firstly,itisvitallyimportanttoeducatepeopleproperlybeforetheystarttodrive,andthiscouldbedoneinschoolsorevenaspartofanextendedormoredifficultdrivingtest.Secondly,moreattentioncouldbepaidtosaferoaddesign.Forexample,signscanbeusedtowarnpeople,speedbumpsandroadbendscanbeaddedtocalmtraffic,andspeedcamerascanhelptodeterpeoplefromdrivingtooquickly.Finally,governmentsorlocalcouncilscouldreduceroadaccidentsbyinvestinginbetterpublictransport,whichwouldmeanthatfewerpeoplewouldneedtotravelbycar.

Inconclusion,whilepunishmentscanhelptopreventbaddriving,Ibelievethatotherroadsafetymeasuresshouldalsobeintroduced.

2.Somepeoplethinkthatinthemodernworldwearemoredependentoneachother,whileothersthinkthatpeoplehavebecomemoreindependent.Discussbothviewsandgiveyourownopinion.

Peoplehavedifferentviewsaboutwhetherwearemoreorlessdependentonothersnowadays.Inmyview,modernlifeforcesustobemoreindependentthanpeoplewereinthepast.

Therearetwomainreasonswhyitcouldbearguedthatwearemoredependentoneachothernow.Firstly,lifeismorecomplexanddifficult,especiallybecausethecostoflivinghasincreasedsodramatically.Forexample,youngadultstendtorelyontheirparentsforhelpwhenbuyingahouse.Propertypricesarehigherthanever,andwithouthelpitwouldbeimpossibleformanypeopletopayadepositandamortgage.Secondly,peopleseemtobemoreambitiousnowadays,andtheywantabetterqualityoflifefortheirfamilies.Thismeansthatbothparentsusuallyneedtoworkfull-time,andtheydependonsupportfromgrandparentsandbabysittersforchildcare.

However,Iwouldagreewiththosewhobelievethatpeoplearemoreindependentthesedays.Inmostcountries,familiesarebecomingsmallerandmoredispersed,whichmeansthatpeoplecannotcountonrelativesasmuchastheyusedto.Wealsohavemorefreedomtotravelandlivefarawayfromourhometowns.Forexample,manystudentschoosetostudyabroadinsteadofgoingtotheirlocaluniversity,andthisexperiencemakesthemmoreindependentastheylearntolivealone.Anotherfactorinthisgrowingindependenceistechnology,whichallowsustoworkaloneandfromanypartoftheworld.

Inconclusion,whiletherearesomereasonstobelievethatpeoplenowdependoneachothermore,myownviewisthatwearemoreindependentthanever.

3.Nowadaysanimalexperimentsarewidelyusedtodevelopnewmedicinesandtotestthesafetyofotherproducts.Somepeoplearguethattheseexperimentsshouldbebannedbecauseitismorallywrongtocauseanimalstosuffer,whileothersareinfavourofthembecauseoftheirbenefitstohumanity.Discussbothviewsandgiveyourownopinion.

Itistruethatmedicinesandotherproductsareroutinelytestedonanimalsbeforetheyareclearedforhumanuse.WhileItendtowardstheviewpointthatanimaltestingismorallywrong,Iwouldhavetosupportalimitedamountofanimalexperimentationforthedevelopmentofmedicines.

Ontheonehand,thereareclearethicalargumentsagainstanimalexperimentation.Touseacommonexampleofthispractice,laboratorymicemaybegivenanillnesssothattheeffectivenessofanewdrugcanbemeasured.Opponentsofsuchresearcharguethathumanshavenorighttosubjectanimalstothiskindoftrauma,andthatthelivesofallcreaturesshouldberespected.Theybelievethatthebenefitstohumansdonotjustifythesufferingcaused,andthatscientistsshouldusealternativemethodsofresearch.

Ontheotherhand,reliablealternativestoanimalexperimentationmaynotalwaysbeavailable.Supportersoftheuseofanimalsinmedicalresearchbelievethatacertainamountofsufferingonthepartofmiceorratscanbejustifiedifhumanlivesaresaved.Theyarguethatopponentsofsuchresearchmightfeeldifferentlyifamemberoftheirownfamiliesneededamedicaltreatmentthathadbeendevelopedthroughtheuseofanimalexperimentation.Personally,Iagreewiththebanningofanimaltestingfornon-medicalproducts,butIfeelthatitmaybeanecessaryevilwherenewdrugsandmedicalproceduresareconcerned.

Inconclusion,itseemstomethatitwouldbewrongtobantestingonanimalsforvitalmedicalresearchuntilequallyeffectivealternativeshavebeendeveloped.

4.Somepeoplethinkthatmuseumsshouldbeenjoyableplacestoentertainpeople,whileothersbelievethatthepurposeofmuseumsistoeducate.Discussbothviewsandgiveyouownopinion.

Peoplehavedifferentviewsabouttheroleandfunctionofmuseums.Inmyopinion,museumscanandshouldbebothentertainingandeducational.

Ontheonehand,itcanbearguedthatthemainroleofamuseumistoentertain.Museumsaretouristattractions,andtheiraimistoexhibitacollectionofinterestingobjectsthatmanypeoplewillwanttosee.Theaveragevisitormaybecomeboredifheorshehastoreadorlistentotoomucheducationalcontent,somuseumsoftenputmoreofanemphasisonenjoymentratherthanlearning.Thistypeofmuseumisdesignedtobevisuallyspectacular,andmayhaveinteractiveactivitiesorevengamesaspartofitsexhibitions.

Ontheotherhand,somepeoplearguethatmuseumsshouldfocusoneducation.Theaimofanyexhibitionshouldbetoteachvisitorssomethingthattheydidnotpreviouslyknow.Usuallythismeansthatthehistorybehindthemuseum’sexhibitsneedstobeexplained,andthiscanbedoneinvariousways.Somemuseumsemployprofessionalguidestotalktotheirvisitors,whileothermuseumsofferheadsetssothatvisitorscanlistentodetailedcommentaryabouttheexhibition.Inthisway,museumscanplayanimportantroleinteachingpeopleabouthistory,culture,scienceandmanyotheraspectsoflife.

Inconclusion,itseemstomethatagoodmuseumshouldbeabletoofferaninteresting,enjoyableandeducationalexperiencesothatpeoplecanhavefunandlearnsomethingatthesametime.

5.Somepeoplebelievethatstudyingatuniversityorcollegeisthebestroutetoasuccessfulcareer,whileothersbelievethatitisbettertogetajobstraightafterschool.Discussbothviewsandgiveyouropinion.

Whentheyfinishschool,teenagersfacethedilemmaofwhethertogetajoborcontinuetheireducation.Whiletherearesomebenefitstogettingajobstraightafterschool,Iwouldarguethatitisbettertogotocollegeoruniversity.

Theoptiontostartworkstraightafterschoolisattractiveforseveralreasons.Manyyoungpeoplewanttostartearningmoneyassoonaspossible.Inthisway,theycanbecomeindependent,andtheywillbeabletoaffordtheirownhouseorstartafamily.Intermsoftheircareer,youngpeoplewhodecidetofindwork,ratherthancontinuetheirstudies,mayprogressmorequickly.Theywillhavethechancetogainrealexperienceandlearnpracticalskillsrelatedtotheirchosenprofession.Thismayleadtopromotionsandasuccessfulcareer.

Ontheotherhand,Ibelievethatitismorebeneficialforstudentstocontinuetheirstudies.Firstly,academicqualificationsarerequiredinmanyprofessions.Forexample,itisimpossibletobecomeadoctor,teacherorlawyerwithouthavingtherelevantdegree.Asaresult,universitygraduateshaveaccesstomoreandbetterjobopportunities,andtheytendtoearnhighersalariesthanthosewithfewerqualifications.Secondly,thejobmarketisbecomingincreasinglycompetitive,andsometimestherearehundredsofapplicantsforonepositioninacompany.Youngpeoplewhodonothavequalificationsfromauniversityorcollegewillnotbeabletocompete.

Forthereasonsmentionedabove,itseemstomethatstudentsaremorelikelytobesuccessfulintheircareersiftheycontinuetheirstudiesbeyondschoollevel.
